CLEVELAND -- Free-agent wide receiver Andrew Hawkins has joined the Cleveland Browns after the offer sheet he signed five days ago was not matched by the Cincinnati Bengals prior to today's deadline.

The Browns signed Hawkins, a 5-foot-7, 180-pound slot receiver, to a four-year, $13.6 million deal and with the structure of the contract, nearly $11 million of that will be paid out over the first two years of the deal.

A high-ankle sprain sidelined Hawkins for half of the 2013 regular season, and with limited time on the field, he turned 12 catches into 199 yards, a 16.6 yards-per-reception average.

In his three-year career with the Bengals, the former University of Toledo product gained 995 yards and scored four touchdowns on 86 receptions. He added 58 yards on 13 rushing attempts, and averaged 11.6 yards per reception over his career.

Hawkins' best season came in 2012, when he caught 51 passes for 533 yards and four touchdowns.
