BROOKYLYN HEIGHTS -- People in Brooklyn Heights today got out of bed extra early and braved the cold to cheer on one of their own.

They gathered at the rec center to watch Brooklyn Heights native, Kelli Stack, and Team USA square off against Canada. Many predict the match-up is a preview of the Women's Hockey gold medal game next week.

With a population of just 1500, having a hometown Olympian is a big deal.

"For us to have an Olympian, especially in Women's hockey—a sport that doesn't even exist in our school district, it's just unbelieveable," said Brooklyn Heights Mayor Michael Procuk.

"We're proud of her. It's amazing actually. For Kelli to be in the Olympics and she comes from such a small town," said brother-in-law, Chris Trisscari.

Friends, family, firefighters, police officers and more showed up for the breakfast watch party, many wearing Team USA gear.
