The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will launch an urban cycling festival based out of Edgewater Park in Cleveland Metroparks Lakefront Reservation this coming fall, the organization announced today.

NEOCycle, presented by Ohio Savings Bank, will consist of several unique rides and competitive races connected by an interactive, action-filled festival at Edgewater Park. NEOCycle will take place September 27-28, 2014.

The two-day event is expected to involve around 2,000 riders and create $200,000 of economic activity in its first year.

NEOCycle will also promote Cleveland's emergent cycling-friendly attributes, healthy and active lifestyles, and many of Cleveland's outstanding natural and man-made resources.

"NEOCycle takes advantage of Cleveland's already vibrant cycling movement and provide a unique opportunity for riders of all styles, ages and skill level," said David Gilbert, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission President and CEO.

"By creating powerful partnerships with Cleveland's cycling, corporate and civic community, the event is poised to become the top cycling festival in the Midwest. NEOCycle fulfills the Sports Commission's mission by adding hundreds of thousands of dollars to the local economy through visitor spending. The event also adds a new, thrilling entertainment option to the Cleveland landscape."

NEOCycle will be the umbrella festival for a minimum of five races and rides in its first year and the festival schedule will allow cyclists to compete or participate in multiple rides throughout the weekend.

Registration prices for the races will range between $25 and $35, with discounts being offered for registering for multiple races. Registration for the event will open on April 1.
