New app brings contractors to you in 30 minutes or less

CLEVELAND, OH - It’s being called the Uber of home improvement projects because it only takes a few swipes in the app and someone’s on the way to fix whatever’s broken.

Dave Theus, co-founder of Homee, said the app is a game changer for all of us who have wanted something fixed in our home.

The idea came from his own mishap.

"I was re-doing a master bathroom and I was a little too aggressive and I ended up busting a hole in the pipes,” Theus said.

He needed a plumber who would fix only what was broken and not bankrupt him in the process.

Eighteen months ago, he created Homee.

"You don't have to chase them,” Theus said. “You don't have to have the two to four hour blocks that you have to be home, it's when you're ready, you tap on the icon and you get the guy to your house."

Typically in less than 30 minutes, contractors, technicians or independent handymen (who have passed a background check) will be at your house to take care of whatever you need.

City Wide in Cleveland is a business that’s used Homee for months, and they’ve seen the benefits.
"I don't have to worry about when someone's gonna show up or if they're gonna leave site or when they're done, it's all notified through text message,” Samuel Kovachy, vice president, said.

All of the work is documented by notes in the app and a timer that stops when the contractor is off of the property. That means customers only pay for the time the work was done.

"When a contractor is there or a tech is there doing lighting services or electrical work, they say 'by the way, the plumbing is an issue' and we're able to expand the services just on other things,” Kovachy said.

Contractors or handymen who take jobs also have to submit before and after pictures, and both customers and techs rate each other on a five-star system.

Right now, the app is active in 13 states and counting.
