Resident felt 1 jolt from Hawaii earthquake

Big Island resident Marie Onouye says she felt one large jolt when an earthquake struck Hawaii's southernmost island.

The part-owner of The Volcano Store says Thursday morning's temblor didn't cause anything to fall to the ground. She didn't see any damage from the quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey said Thursday that the magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit just after 7 a.m. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says no tsunami was expected as a result of the quake.

The quake was centered 11 miles (18 kilometers) southeast of Volcano. It centered 5 miles (8 kilometers) below the surface.

The USGS initially measured the quake at magnitude 5.1.
