Man dies in Cedar Point Causeway crash

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- A 37-year-old man is dead following a crash on the Cedar Point Causeway in which he was ejected from his vehicle.

It happened at 8:10 p.m. Sunday as Gustava Walls, of Lakewood, was driving northbound on the Causeway. Authorities say Walls failed to negotiate a curve at a high rate of speed and went off the right side of the street. His 2007 Honda Accord then re-entered the roadway and collided with a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup truck and a 2015 Hyundai Elantra.

His vehicle then overturned several times.

Walls was given CPR on scene before later dying at Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Both people inside the Hyundai were hurt as the vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage. The driver suffered a fractured left elbow while her passenger had pelvis and ankle injuries.

Nobody in the pickup truck was hurt.

Authorities say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash. Walls was not wearing a seat belt.

At the time of the accident, the REV3 Triathlon was in progress on the Cedar Point Causeway. No participants or volunteers were injured.
