The Great Barrier Reef tank is located inside the Primate, Cat & Aquatics Building.
The 3,500-gallon tank features 10 different species of saltwater fish. The tank measures 11 feet across and 6 feet high, with a viewing window made of 3-inch-thick acrylic.
Although the coral inside the tank is artificial, it represents some of the 400 species of coral that make up Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and the only living thing on earth visible from space. Along with the coral are several species of fish including:
- Pyramid Butterflyfish
- Bannerfish
- Big Nose Unicornfish
- Blueline Rabbitfish
- Green Chromis
- Clown Triggerfish
- Black Ocellaris Clownfish
- Blue Morpho Tang
- Green Bird Wrasse Male
- Brown Bird Wrasse Female
- Threadfish Butterflyfish
Northeast Ohio’s most-visited year-round attraction, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Winter admission is $8 per person, $5 for juniors ages 2 to 11 and free for children younger than 2 and Zoo members.
