CLEVELAND -- The warm weather has people diving into Lake Erie before water testing for bacteria levels begins.
Is that safe?
The Cleveland Board of Health just started testing for bacteria and will continue testing daily through Labor Day.
Edgewater beach testing started this week and has been deemed safe bacteria levels. Huntington Beach testing started Sunday and the first results will be available on May 21st. Testing for Maumee Bay and the Cuyahoga River will begin Memorial Day weekend.
Health agencies are testing for high Ecoli levels in the water. Levels typically rise after a storm or flooding when sewer lines overflow.
Some people Channel 3 talked to say they don't mind taking the risk to enjoy the lake on a beautiful day in May.
