Parts of 10 states in the Southern Plains of the United States are under heat advisories or excessive heat warnings this afternoon.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting afternoon temperatures to range from the mid 90s to low 110s, with dew points in the 70s, for parts of Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
For example, the NWS is forecasting a high temperature this afternoon of 109 degrees for Tulsa, OK. For Oklahoma City, temperature is forecast to reach 107 degrees.
Little relief will be found overnight as temperatures will only drop into the mid 70s and low 80s.
The current heat advisories and excessive heat warnings will likely continue through mid-week, even through the end of the week, as temperatures are forecast to linger in the mid 90s and low 110s through Friday.
