Weather across the nation on May 11, 2017

Rain will gather across the southeastern corner of the country as a storm sweeps eastward tomorrow.

Severe thunderstorms can erupt among the warmth and humidity in the Deep South, particularly over eastern Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

A few locally strong thunderstorms could extend into the southern Appalachians. Areas of rain and drizzle will stretch northward into the mid-Atlantic and central Appalachians. Dry weather is in store for New England, Florida and much of the central United States.

A chilly storm will progress inland across the Northwest. Rumbles of thunder are possible along the Interstate-5 corridor from Washington to Oregon, with showers expanding inland to Idaho and western Montana.

Much of California can expect a dry but cooler day, with heat building in the Southwest.
