Indians Ode to Yankee Stadium
It may seem silly, but in TV you HAVE to think as far in advance as possible. I know it's only the middle of February, but it's never a bad thing to look ahead into the old crystal ball.
2008 is the final season for Yankee Stadium, and the Tribe takes their final regular season trip into the Bronx May 6-8. And in thinking ahead, we started to pull some old video of some of the Indians' best moments at the famous House That Ruth Built, and I thought I would trigger your memory on a couple of these.
The first thing I was thought about was some of the Indians' playoff games at Yankee Stadium. The first thing I thought of was obviously Game 4 of the ALDS last season. How nice was it to see the Indians celebrate on that famous field for the first time, and quiet all of those Yankee fans? It sure was nice, and you never know if it could happen again this season......
How about the 1998 ALCS-do you remember Chuck Knoblauch seemingly standing for seconds after the ball was thrown past first base on a Travis Fryman bunt attempt? The Indians won that game in 12 innings, 4-1. One of my favorites was Game 2 of the '97 division series, rookie Jaret Wright's first playoff start, and certainly his coming out party. After walking the bases loaded and giving up three runs, Wright got out of the firstand the rest is history. That was it for the Bronx Bombers, and Wright finished off New York in the 6th by striking out the side in his final inning.
Regular season moments in recent years include Jim Thome's first career home run in 1991. The coming-out party of Manny Ramirez in 1993 in front of his hometown fans, going 3-4 with 2 homers, trotting triumphantly to the Tribe dugout as his Dominican friends celebrated in the stands. And Bartolo Colon's one-hitter in 2000, a 2-0 shutout out of the pinstripers.
You never know what you may see when the Indians play in Yankee Stadium, but you will see it on SportsTime Ohio in high-definition, certainly not the way Babe Ruth ever would have imagined it.
