Happy New Year...Maybe?

It feels great to be back at work as we start a new year with hopes of an improving economy. I would love to start reporting this recession will be short-lived.
However, as I prepared for this evenings newscast, I read more dire news:
"Cigna to layoff more than eleven hundred workers."
"President-elect Barack Obama saying the national economy is "bad and getting worse."
"Automakers releasing December sales figures showing steep declines over last year...Chrysler says its U.S. sales were down by more
than half...and sales were down about a third for other U.S. carmakers."
"Gas Prices are creeping up."
Still, I'm an optimist! If some economists predictions are true, the housing market could hit bottom toward the end of the year and there's hope President-Elect Obama's stimulus package might give some taxpayers a boost, creating spending and encouraging banks to ease up on credit a little.
I know it will take a lot more, like creating jobs, getting people back to work...but I have faith in our country and its people...we'll work our way out of this mess...hopefully "sooner rather than later.!"

Ramona,

My name is Mi-chal. I watch channel 3 news most nights that I am home. I do enjoy watching channel 3, you all bring a style, polish and class that other stations lack. Thank you for being so professional. I wanted to comment on your remarks regarding this recession. As I stated earlier, I watch channel 3 most nights, that is when I don't have to work. You see I recently returned to my job as respiratory therapist after being on medical for the past nine months. The only shift available was a part time night shift for me to return to after being off for so long. I was diagnosed with stage 4 nonhodgkins peripheral T cell lymphoma last November (2007)This after being told 2 weeks earlier that I was expecting. It has been a challenging year for me and my family. But we are determined that we will not lose faith or heart because tough times have come to pass. It has helped us immensely that President Elect Barack Obama will be sworn in tomorrow afternoon as our first african american and 44th President of these United States. We realize that it will not be better immediately, but at least we know that with him and based on all that he has promised, there is a light down at the end of the tunnel. How can we as americans not begin to feel the hopeful expectation of a people that has united to see this country go a different direction, and not leave anybody out in the cold? We are so excited and we know that this is the beginning of something truly beautiful, look what has happened already. We all just have to continue to dig deep and know that it will be better in due time.

Hi Mi-chal,
Thanks so much for your story. You must be one brave woman...and to find out you were also pregnant.
I can't imagine what you've been through, but I'm so glad you made it through.
The inauguration was quite moving and hopes are so high for a better America!
Take care of yourself!
