Wrong Number!!

I recently called what I thought was my contractor Jack's cell phone number.
Surprised that a woman answered, I realized I had made a mistake and punched a wrong number.

I preceded to say; "I'm sorry Miss, I've called the wrong number." The problem is she wouldn't let me hang up. She quickly snapped back: "Who are you calling for?" "What number did you dial?" "Who is this?"

I guess I was in a state of shock for a second because I was being grilled to reveal my identity. I didn't want to tell her who I was or who I was calling for since I had obviously dialed the wrong number. I also didn't want to be rude and hang up, so I just repeated: "I'm so sorry I've dialed the wrong number and hung up.

However, a few hours later I wondered if I had handled the call correctly. Its not like I haven't made the mistake before and most people are great syaing "No problem." A friend pointed out that she may have thought I was "another woman" calling for her husband.

Then I really started to feel bad. So I ask you...If you mis-dial and call someones home...should you reveal your identity or was she just being overly suspicious?
