In 1886, St Cloud, MN was hit with a devastating tornado that was 800 yards wide and cut a 20-mile path through the town. A total of 74 people died and it was said that the bottom of the Mississippi River was seen during the tornado's crossing.
In 1987, a storm system moving across the Mid-Mississippi Valley produced severe thunderstorms and spawned 3 tornadoes around Ottumwa, IA. Up to 4 inches of rain fell in southeastern Nebraska which caused many rivers to flood.
In 1990, a cold front produced severe weather across southeastern Texas during the mid-morning hours. Dime size hail was reported at Galveston, TX, and a wind gust of 59 mph ripped through Port Arthur, TX.
