On This Date in Weather History: 4/17/08

In 1922, at least six tornadoes ripped a 210-mile path from Ogden, Illinois to Allen County, Ohio, killing 16 people. A post card was picked up in Madison County, Indiana, and was found 124 miles away near Mount Cory, Ohio.

In 1987, record heat was reported in 22 cities across the central part of the country. Highs warmed into the 70s and 80s from the High Plains to the Mississippi Valley, with readings in the lower 90s reported in the southern Plains.

In 1988, a late-season winter storm hit northern Arizona. Snowfall totals ranged from 16 inches at Pinetop to 10 inches in Flagstaff. This same system also spawned a couple of weak tornadoes in Idaho.
