News: Tornadoes reported in western Ohio

PORT WILLIAMS, Ohio -- The National Weather Service says funnel clouds and tornadoes were reported over about one hour in western Ohio as thunder showers moved through the area.

Meteorologist Myron Padgett says a tornado confirmed in Clinton County caused minor damage to trees and trailers at around 5:18 p.m. Thursday.

A Weather Service announcement says police reported that the tornado hit I-71. Mike Jones of the county's Emergency Management Agency says it appears wind also knocked down some power lines.

Padgett says brief tornado touchdowns also were seen in Greene County at about 5:25 p.m. and in Clark County at about 6:13 p.m. Sheriff's offices in the two counties reported no damage.

News: Lightning hits two homes in Northeast Ohio

PARMA HEIGHTS -- The thunderstorms that rolled through the area Friday afternoon left behind some damage. In Parma Heights, a home on Revere Drive was damaged after it was struck by lightning.

Officials with the Parma Heights Fire Department say the lightning damaged the home's chimney and roof. Fortunately, the home did not catch on fire.

Carmen Sebastian was in his living room when the lightning struck. It put a 12-inch by 12-inch hole in his roof, next to the chimney. Firefighters helped place a tarp over the roof damage. No one was injured.

Sebastian's big problem now, getting his power back on before his daughter's first communion party tomorrow.

Another house (see photo) was also hit by lightning in Carlisle Township in Lorain County. That home did catch fire.

Channel 3 video from the scene shows it appeared the lightning followed a direct path to the natural gas meter.

No one was hurt, but he house has some severe damage.
