A Chilly Morning Kicks Off October

By Frank Macek

CLEVELAND -- A cold morning chilled the pumpkins across the area on the first day of October.

Temperatures in many areas away from Lake Erie fell into the 30's on Thursday morning.

Among the major National Weather Service reporting stations, the lowest temperatures ranged from 30 degrees in Findlay to 32 degrees in Toledo and 33 degrees at Mansfield.

Cleveland Hopkins International only dropped to 40 degrees, while the Akron Canton Airport dipped to 35 degrees.

WKYC Meteorologist Betsy Kling says "the chilly weather isn't that unusual" for early October. "It's more of a harsh wake up call from Mother Nature that the seasons are indeed changing."

Here are some reports early morning lows for selected airports across northern Ohio:

Akron Canton Regional Airport: 35 degrees
Burke Lakefront Airport: 44 degrees
Cleveland Hopkins: 40 degrees
Cuyahoga County Airport: 37 degrees
Lorain County Regional Airport: 39 degrees
Mansfield Lahm Airport: 33 degrees
New Philadelphia, Harry Clever Field: 36 degrees
Toledo Express: 32 degrees
Wooster, Wayne County Airport : 33 degrees
Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport: 40 degrees
Zanesville Municipal Airport: 31 degrees
