I couldn't even get to the list of recalled foods on the list due to an error on their page. So, I still don't know if I'm feeding my cat bad food. Would be nice if someone could post it on a valid site.
I was feeding my dog Nutro-Max Dog food because I thought a higher end product was better for her but now I have to worry about her being sick!(even though I don't see any signs yet)
People sould be told to check the website of the food they feed their animals to see if they are affected by the recall! It can also help find a replacement
My (otherwise healthy, four-year-old) cat fell ill Thursday afternoon after having consumed one of the foods implicated in the recall. He is currently undergoing treatment for kidney failure.
I strongly suggest that anyone in possession of wet food from any of the brands involved in the recall either pitch the food or return it, regardless of whether the lot number and sell-by date corresponds to those listed on the recall site.
The batch of food that sickened my cat was not initially posted by the Menu Foods recall site. It was finally added this afternoon, along with numerous other lots.. and a couple of new brands. It's not worth taking the chance. Whatever it is, this stuff is nasty.
Hello, I am the author of "Food Pets Die For" and "Protect Your Pet:" I was not surprise to see the massive recall of foods produced by Menu. Each year there are a number of pet food recalls most often caused by mycotoxins which are found in moldy grains. I've researched the pet food industry for 16 years and what they are putting in commercial pet foods is material that should be going to landfill. This is virtually an un-regulated industry, they regulate themselves, and for the most part the products they produce are a disaster waiting to happen. Just my two cents.
I'm glad to see you covering a story that is important to so many people. But you need to emphasize the pet food being recalled is canned and moist wet food sold in pouches. Many of the companies listed sell tons of dry food and people should not panic if they are feeding the dry foods manufactured by the companies listed. barb B. Painesville
I have been feeding my dog both Mighty Dog Pouch and O'Roy. He has shown signs of kidney problems. He is drinking alot of water and having accidents. What are we supposed to do to treat this? Will the dog food companies be held responsible? We need more information!
I have tried to feed my cat three cans of their food. One she ate part of one, the other two she has just turned her nose up at it. She has been a bit lazier than usual and been drinking one heck of a lot of water. But I haven't feed her any of that one type of food now for two days. She seems fine today, still drinking a bit more water than usual though. I just want to know what to do with the last two cans (plus the one empty) and who to contact from the company to complain. That info is not listed on the recall page. They most likely do not to be deluged with emails from angry pet owners ... or the hear the anguish from the ones who believe their food killed their beloved pets. They are now become mass murders in my eyes. I just hope my cat Samantha continues to recover.
I was feeding my beloved Elkhound Iams pouches, and am angry that it took from december to now, feeding him this poisened food, to have Iams recall it. They HAD to know before there were problems, and it took animals dying for them to recall it? I thought Iams was the best, but you can bet i will never ever feed him Iams again, I dont trust the company anymore. So far my dog is drinking more water, but I want to know more about this and symptoms, they are too vague, nancy (and NO one regulates pet food, it should be regulated like baby food/people food, animals are just as important)
MY SISTERS,BIG CAT WAS DRINKING ALOT OF WATER, AFTER IT ATE SOME WET CAT FOOD, LAID IN THE SUN AND JUST DIED.THINK ABOUT ALL OF THEM OUT THERE WE WON'T HEAR ABOUT, MORE THAN 10.
I think Iams is going to take a bit of grief over this. I tried to get to their website from the link of the Menu Foods site and it is down for maintenance. Not a good time to make their customers unable to get information. Fortunately, the date codes on our Iams dog food foil pouches are all fine so our dog will be, too.
Finally I was able to get the updated list, and yes my dog ate some of the Nutro Ultra food. I have been dealing with a kidney problem since a day or two after that-just out of the blue. Try to use the best and I may lose my dog over this, not to mention the amount of money this has cost me already! Will there be other UPC lots included to warn people?
My dog died on Dec. 8 2006. He became sick in the summer from July until August . about a month He was fed Old Roy pouch food. He had all the symptoms lose of appetite drinking a lot of water diahrea, he weighed l2 pounds he lost 3 pounds . The vet didn't know what was wrong. Although he was l4 , he had been in good health. I continued to feed him Old Roy until the day before he died. I recently just threw the food away. I wish I had known.
I am very upset by this. It was so hard to find a good food, especially one my dog actually liked, and then something like this happens. Luckily my dog has shown no problems, and the folks at petsmart directed me to use Bil Jac since there have been no complaints about it. He loves the food, so I found my new brand!
Be careful of the recall list. I picked up the Ol'Roy Hearty Loaf dog food at Walmart, her normal brand was sold out. She had horrible diarrea that night, I just thought it was because of the sudden change in food, but now I'm wondering..... Luckily, she seems OK now.
Towards the end of December our family cat, Leo, fell sick with kidney failure. Despite medical attention everything shut down too quick and we lost him right before Christmas. He was almost 3 years of age. My wife and our three children as well as I were devastated by the lost since Leo was beyond a doubt a beloved member of our family. He was young and before his kidney problems was in perfect health. Now we have come to find out about the product recall. At the time it didn’t make any sense and our vet could not give us a sound explanation. It seems I now have the answer. We fed him moist canned cat food along with his dry as a treat, something special, and now we come to find out that the treat we gave him most likely killed him. I am at a lost for words. If you talk with any pet owner they will say that they feel the same way we all did. Our pets are members of our families. We dedicate attention; money, time, and most importantly love for our pets however I cannot say the same for the corporations that produce the food we feed these pets. They cannot even have enough courtesy to assure that the list of recalled pet foods will work properly on their website so those of us still feeding our pets can have peace of mind by knowing whether or not we are feeding our animals tainted food. I have no doubt that these recalled products had a hand in Leo’s death since we did feed him canned food from the common retailers listed on Channel 3’s site. I am sickened by this whole mess and hope that Menu Foods takes responsibility for their lack of quality control. I hope that they do not have the mindset that it is just animals that they are dealing with because in most cases there is an emotional reaction to Menu Foods actions (or lack there of).
I had fed our cat Iams canned cat food for a few weeks. Last week, she got sick and we took her into an emergency clinic. She had kidney failure. Because of the advanced state, we had to put her down. It was so sudden. Did I lose my beloved pet of ten years due to someone else's mistake? Probably.
my dog is dying of kidney failure. i thought i was doing right by her, keeping her on an exclusive pet food diet(she hated it).she has been my constant companion for fourteen years.she is fifteen. i fed her mighty dog exclusively. Even when the vet had me purchase two dollar a can kidney diet food,i still mixed in a few teaspoons of poison so her kidney diet food (cornmeal mush with some vitamins added, what a scam). Now she is trembling and leaking urine. She has to go out every ten minutes. She drinks water like a camel filling up,and her doggy diapers cost me 16 dollars for 12. WHAT DO I DO NOW ? I'm disabled and cannot leave the house easily.and i live on 600.00 a month.i would gladly give my dog a kidney if i could. without her i am alone. how can i pay these vet bills? i suppose the lawyers will take any compensation, but i would like to take my dear gizmo to visit one of these over-paid executives and ask them personally how they can help childless me take care of my beloved dog. and just how am i supposed to go on without her, knowing i forced this poison down her throat? people food from now on.thank you for listening ,loreee3
I had my dog heidi since she was a puppy and we decided to switch the foods since she was getting older from dry to canned prior to switching her food she was healthy and happy and after we switched her to canned food within a month she went down hill. She had massive kidney failure, lost weight rapidly, and the vet suggested we put her to sleep! So thanks to this product i lost my first dog. I wish all of you the best of luck with your pets if their on this dog food as well. So you dont have to suffer like i am.
It is my belief that the recall is starting too late. They are saying that they think it is due to a change of ingedents in December. I fed my dog some of the food in question in October and she got very sick. She recovered after 3 days of IV's and antibiotics.
We think our cat is dying. She became ill so quickly we didn't know what could be wrong. When we saw your opening news segment about the tainted pet food we immediately knew that was the cause and looked up her brand of food on your website and it was listed. We are so devastated. We are also worried about our dog since he stole her food yesterday and ate it himself since our cat turned away from it and is refusing to eat. Our three young children are very sad. We can only hope and pray our pets make it through the night so we can get them to the vet in the morning.
My family was devastated when our family dog died on 2-22-07. She had symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, excessive thirst and she was very lethargic. We have always feed her O'Roy canned dog food purchased from Walmart. We, now, suspect her sudden illness and death was due to this dog food recall. What do you think? And where do we go from here? Saddened by the loss of our pet. Paula Novak Vermilion 440-967-0344
loree3, I feel the same way. I fed my cat this food and in a sense I now feel that I killed him! Bruce I also agree with you about it being too late for the recall. The damage has been done and quite frankly a recall list and an I'm sorry doesn't cut it. I'm not ashamed to say it was painful to lose Leo. I think we should at the very least band together, all of us upset by this, and at least voice our opinions to the company. Anyone interested please feel free to contact me through email at maxim082002@sbcglobal.net. I'm serious about this and want to discuss this with anyone that feels the same way and maybe we can come up with something. I hope to hear from anyone that has ideas on what we should do to make this company aware of the problems they have now caused. They need to take responsibility.
I see a lot of people posting about giving their pets 'Ol Roy or Iams food. Don't you know these brands are garbage?! Go to a good pet or feed store and go for a higher-end 'human grade' food brand such as 'Wellness'. We've been feeding our Chocolate Lab/Elkhound mix 'Wellness' brand wet and dry food for 7 years now, and she is as healthy and perky as a puppy, even though she is 12!!! "Garbage in, garbage out". It makes total sense that if you feed your pet quality food with real ingredients, they will thrive better and live longer.

My beloved cat of 14 years died last Sunday (3-11-07)yes she was old but she still acted like a kitten. The week before she died I had bought some canned food....I normally feed her meow mix (bag) but I thought she could use a treat....She had all the symptoms....
I agree with whoever said about banding together on this....I know I could go out and dig my cat up and have her tested...as gruesome as that sounds. I could not for the life of me figure out why she died, she acted like a kitten. Broke my heart...I miss her so much.
I think there is way more then the 10 animals they are saying that died and now I am furious.....my cat died a senseless cruel death and now i am gonna be living with the guilt that I killed her by wanting to give her a "treat"
I had to put my cat down on 3/15 due to kidney failure. This was one day before Menu Foods announcing their tainted food list. My cat has been eating special kitty foil pounches (gravy style) since January. I still have some opened and unopened pouches - checked the list they are listed as tainted. Now I know why my cat died - pet owners need to know if your animal shows signs of vomiting, drinking more fluids, etc. they are probably in kindey failure, and if they are there is no reversal, they will die. This company needs to make restitution to pet owners - this is killing are pets and not just making them sick.
I have been feeding both of my dogs Nutro Max for years...we luckily haven't had any problems. Regardless, I will never purchase this brand again, or any others listed. I am now switching to Bill Jac. I also cannot believe that no where is it mentioned what to do if you have any of the tainted food. I have one can - and 12 other cans that haven't been recalled....what do we do with it?? Can we get our money back??? They should be held fully accountable for all the pets that have gotten sick and/or died. My heart goes out to all of you who have lost your beloved pet.
my heart goes out to all of the pet owners affected by this tragedy. Pets are more family than some human family. I am very lucky that we feed our 4 Labs a local fresh/frozen dog food Bil-Jac. It is available by the bag, or case, and at places like Petsmart, grocery stores and even Marcs. Our family has been feeding it to all our dogs since the 1960s. They also offer premium dry. So If anyone is looking for an alternative premium dog food look no further. Bil-Jac is the best. Just check out there website! Lab Lover in Lagrange!
R CAT DIED LAST WEEK AFTER EATING SOME OF OUR DOGS CANNED OUR DOGS CANNED Purina. SHE WAS A YOUNG HEALTHY CAT AND SHE LOOKED LIKE SHE JUST LAID DOWN AND DIED. I HAD SEEN HER EATING SOME OF THE DOGS FOOD BUT DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT. AFTER THIS RECALL CAME OUT, I HAPPEN TO REMEMBER i SAW HER DRINKING HUGH AMOUNTS OF WATER. SHE DIED SO SUDDENLY AND WAS SO HEALTHY WE CONSIDERED AT THE TIME TO TAKE HER TO THE VET TO FIND OUT WHAT SHE DIED FROM. BUT WE DIDN'T. I DON'T HAVE ANY PROOF BUT IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW.
My cat eats Special Kitty from Walmart 1 to 2 times a day. The numbers on the packets I have match the list published. I am taking my cat to my vet for tests just to be sure. I want to know if this company is going to pay for the vet bills, especially if subsequent treatment is necessary. And, what about these poor people who lost their beloved pets? This is simply criminal.
We recently lost our 11 year old golden retriever to what we truely believe was kidney failure. We fed him Saturday and Sunday one of the can foods that is on the list and the date coincides. He fell ill on Monday evening. He was trembling, his jaw was clenched tight. He couldn't get enough water. We helped him to go outside when he bent to potty he was wavering on his hind legs. He couldn't stand up. He vomited that evening. We took him to the emergency room in Lorain ohio. They treated him for an upset stomach. The next day he was no better. The next morning he died. I cannot emphasize enough if your pet is ill take him to the vet and have a kidney test.
I have 3 cats and 1 dog. I feed only natural pet food that contains no wheat, corn or soy. It costs a little more, but is worth it. I use Innova and Nature's Variety. I purchase the wet food for both my dog and cats. You can get all natural pet foods at In Good Health All Natural Pet Foods in Northfield Ohio. They will help you find what's right for your dog or cat and you won't have to worry about them getting sick!
I also shop at In Good Health! They are really awesome! I feed Evangers and Solid Gold to my dogs and California Natural to my cat. They are all "human grade" foods. They have better ingrediants then most of the stuff that I eat. The coat got softer on my dog and the cat doesn't shed as much. Why do vets not inform us of the natural foods. I really think they make a huge difference. By the way In Good Healths phone number is (330) 908-1234. They really are great!
I feed my dog, a pedigreed English Springer Spaniel, dry Nutro dog food for the past year or so. He died suddenly for no apparent reason in early Feb. Now I hear about the recall of dog foor, Nutro being one of them, but it says canned foods. What about the dry, is the same ingredient in the dry??? I am also feeding my cat the nutro canned cat food for sensitive stomachs and indoor cats and less shedding, is this going to harm her? I gave the left over dog food to my daughter for her two pedigreed dogs and today she reports that they are both acting somewhat less than normal and both have suddenly gained weight, what should she do?? It was dry food and maybe 1/2 of the large bag, was it capable of harming them?? My cat who is 14 seems to be fine now but what about later? How long for the symptoms to show and what are the symptoms? My dog was fine and then my daughter noticed he looked fat, after checking him I found his abdomen was very enlarged and hollow sounding with a sloshing. I stayed home with him to keep an eye on him and two hours later he was dead. This was our companion of 10 years. He should have lived for another 10 years. Did this dog food kill my dog???
akronsays can`t get imfo on aldi`s shep brand as aldi is not listed in the phone book.i have seen the list but want to be sure as i have aldi shep beef chunks&shep chunky beef dinners.aldi web site not helpful, come on aldi wake up!
We recemtly lost our 10 year old healthy cat to kidney failure. The cat lost her health within a matter of days and our vet thinks it may have been associated with the food. We fed her primarily Special Kitty pouches of food and still have several of the recalled pouches.
The Menu Foods website is not complete and doesn't have all the dates that are being recalled, you have to check with the manufacturer of the food that you are using. For example, Nutro - the Menu list only has a recall for canned foods mfg. Dec. 2009, and pet food stores are going with this list, when according to the Nutro web site, the recalled canned foods are from Nov 09 - March 2010.
Now I know why I lost a cat, 14, in August and her brother last month. My other two, 15 and 16, however seem fine. Nevertheless, after work tonight I will be looking for a new brand. The list only mentioned the Nutro pouches and mine are using cans and dry food. It now makes sense that they were not finishing their food and making a mess with it all over the floor. I cannot handle losing any more of my pets (children).
This is plain and simple GREED and NEGLIGENCE folks! These companies do NOT conduct nearly enough testing of their foods and suppliers foods before they release them to the public! Our pets have become 'guinea pigs' for these companies. Does anyone remember the fairly recent 'Diamond' pet foods recall that killed many dogs as well?
Pets should not eat a purely canned food based diet anyways. It makes them overweight and is very bad for their teeth. Maybe this will wake up pet owners and they'll start placing their pets on dry foods.
I have posted on here before about losing our cat Leo to this just simply insane tainted pet food! Many of you have talked law suit. I am trying to organize us all together so we can go after teh company as a whole. As the saying goes there is strength in numbers and by God we will have strength! Anyone interested please contact me at maxim082002@sbcglobal.net and we will get the ball rolling. A few of you have contacted me and we are all brainstorming on how to get us heard by this poor excuse of a company. I look forward to hearing from all of you and together we will make them pay.
How ironic, WKYC’s advertisement on the upper right page states “Premium Dog Foods Eukanuba, Nutro leading brands. Great info site w/buyers guide.” TAKE THE TIME TO REMOVE THAT FROM YOUR WEB SITE, … YA THINK?!
I work in the pet industry and I can tell you all that I personally made sure that all affected products were removed from the shelf of our store as soon as we heard the news. I understand that many of you are worried as I am a cat and dog owner myself and are a user of the nutro wet products as well. Here are a few things to remember: - many reputable pet stores are prepared to handle your problems. If you were feeding your animal one of the affected foods, stores are prepared to assist you in choosing another product that is comparable. Remember, the best defense in pets is good nutrition! - as far as we all know, the recall has only affected WET foods, not dry foods! Please refer to the company's website of the product you use or call the 800 number on the packaging. They are there to help you. - also, check with the establishment that you purchased your products. Many stores are taking back any brand names that are listed in the recall, regardless of whether the actual can or pouch is being recalled or not.
I know that this is a huge problem and that this yet again proves the lack or regulation in the pet food industry. Let us use this as a catalyst into encouraging the government to get involved not only in human food but our pets food as well!
My cat Lucky died a few weeks ago from kidney failure. Although she was older she was fine until a few months ago when she seemed to be getting worse. I was feeding her IAMS canned cat food because I thought it would be better for her. I am so upset that I may have contributed to an earlier death just by what I was feeding her. I think that becasuse she was older she couldn't fight it off and I just assumed she was getting old. This is very upsetting to think that she might still be here.
1st of all, it's not "have you FEED your pet . . .", it's "Have you FED your pet .. . ." Please use correct spelling! 2nd, my comment is : what else is new??"
My cats are precious to me and we spend plenty of money to get what I thought was the best food for them. Now I may have been slowly killing them. That breaks my heart.
I have one cat that primarily eats those wet pouches. Poor things been whining all day about being hungry, but I can't bring myself to feed her that -- even ones that are supposed to be in the safe upc's. Guess she'll have to tough it out with dry food...
Also, I found it very frustrating to get onto the company's website. They're so inundated with hits, it just errors out. You can find the partial lists, though, through other sites (i.e. nutroproducts.com, petsmart.com)
BIG QUESTION: What exactly was IN the food that caused kidney failure and other health problems for the pets.
It is not enought to just know that these companies sold food that caused kidney failure. We as pet owners need to know all the facts. Can anyone tell me what in the food caused this?
Plus PETA made claims against IAMS and MENU foods for abusive test treatment of dogs. Pet owners have to rebell against companies like this and demand better ways of testing food, like having the president of the company eat some.
I just got back from a local Walmart in the area. I had to return a few items (anyone wan tto guess what!). Anyhow for the heck of it I went to the pet food section and behold nothing was pulled from the shelves. I'm sure they were in "safe" upc's, but wouldn't you think you would find those sections empty. I work in the food retail industry as a meat cutter and recently Oscar Meyer recalled some chicken strips. We pulled all the chicken strips for a time whether they were the recalled ones or not. We boxed them up and the good ones we stored in the cooler for a few days to make sure that nothing else would have been added just to be on the safe side. We didn't want to just pull the one UPC and then a few days later find out that they were recalling the other UPC's. Better to be safe than sorry. I'm surprised that they didn't do that in this case. Do they just not care thinking it's just pet food? Another thing today that bothered me I went to Menu Foods site and looked at the press release about the recall. There was just a strange feel about it. A feeling of arrogance about it. They made comments that there had only been a few comlaints (they obviously haven't seen this comment board) and that the voluntary recall will cost them 30-40 million in sales and profits! It's insane! Their food has or is slowly killing our pets and we should feel sorry for them because of the huge hit their company is taking. Well then they should have better quality control and then things liek this wouldn't happen. I'm not an idiot. I know what really goes on in big businesses and the food industry both for pets and humans. Shortcuts get taken to keep profits up and so on...but come on we as consumers with our busy lives of juggling work and families but a certain level of blind trust taht the products we buy will be generally safe. Again I ask where is the responsibility taken by this company? Where is the remorse for what they let happen? NOt once in the press release did I see a we're sorry for the loss of many pet owners...nothing. This is sad.
I purchased our cans of dog food at pet smart. I checked the shelves. They have pulled everything off. I wrote earlier about our 11 year old golden retriever who passed away on Wed. We took him to the emergency room on Monday-they sent him home with supposed stomach upset. A friend of mine brought up a good point. You would think they would have received prior notice, as they often do before the nation-wide alert.
I had been feeding Nutro Ultra Senior canned formula to my 8-yr old male Schnauzer, Spencer, for about a month. I switched from Hill's Science Diet Mature Dog because the Nutro Ultra seemed to have several good ingredients to help Spencer's heart. About 2 weeks ago he became listless, lost his appetite and began drinking lots of water. I had just broken my arm and was somewhat distracted by my own problems. Then my uncle said that Spencer felt hot. I gave him a baby aspirin, but when he refused both food and water for a whole day I thought I was going to loose him. I prayed all night and offered him back to The Lord. By he next day the fever had broken and he began eating his old food again. However he is still drinking large amounts of water and urinating excessively. I have to get up a couple of times during the night to let him out. He was never like this before. Interestingly, I also have a 10-yr-old female schnauzer. I did not switch her food; she's been on Science Diet the entire time and she is fine. Kathy Orris Parma
I have been feeding my 8 month old shih tzu the Nutro Pouch since I got her back in October. 2 weeks ago I took her to the vet because she was not eating and drinking an enormous amount of water. At that time I had her tested for a bladder infection. Its two weeks later, she still does not have an appetite and drinking too much water. I am bringing her in tomorrow to York Road Animal Hospital for a blood test to see if she is effected. Every one of my pouches and cans are on the recall list and I am afraid and as you can guess, very angry that this should happen and to so many brands. Its a shame.
My Cat of 11 years died Feb 28th he always had dry food and only a few times a month I would feed him a pouch or can of wet food, I fed him the filet mingon under the recall. coincidentaly he died 3 days after I fed him the recalled food from similar symptoms. he did vomit and was lythargic. I hope menu foods does the right thing and pays for the vet bills and the bills for post mortum care.

We just put our cat, Smudge, down last Sat. due to kidney failure. She seemed OK last December, then quickly got worse. We had been feeding her Walmart's Special Kitty and Iams. Is there a connection?
Our beloved cat died Mar 6 and was cremated Mar 8. She ate a steady diet of Authority canned food bought at Petsmart and now listed on the recall. As of yet, I have not been able to get through on any Menu Foods phone number. I left a message at the proper Ohio FDA number, but no one has returned my call. Very frustrating!! I'm sure there are many more than 10 deaths! Very sad! She was very communicative & is greatly missed.
Hello, I am so devistated as to what I am hearing about these foods. Yes everyone you are correct our pets are our family and this should of been detected a long time ago. I have 3 cats and so far no signs of sickness, I am not holding my breath but, I did feed them IAMS cans and pouches a few months back, Since then they have been on CAT CHOW dry and are fine. I will keep an eye on them, None of us are rich to be able to afford these vet bills, maybe some are and GOD BLESS YOU but not everyone is these people take in cats and dogs to give them loving homes wether it's from a pet shop or shelter or wherever these animals come from they count on us. And we count on the companies supplying these foods. We need more answers for GOODNESS SAKES these people have dying pets read their posts. I love animals. I volunteer at a shelter and I just am so upset about this I see cats and dogs frequently and not only are they homeless they are not even sure they can move into families with safe foods COME ON WE NEED ANSWERS and we need them NOW!!! I am praying for each and everyone of you who have sick pets right now and my sympathy goes out to the ones who lost their beloved pets, I know there is a Kitty and Doggy heaven so at least we know now they will not be fed the wrong foods because there is no wrong foods where they are now. Nope you can rest assured of that! So since mine are fine thus far I have an 11 yr old female I have had her since she was 3 weeks old and I have a 3 yr old I adopted when he was approx 8 months old and I took in an orphan off streets this past Nov. he is now 6 months old but he grew up on IAMS Kitten Pouches I hope it was all before this stuff went on I have no proof I through all my cans away I mean come on who was gonna keep them around??? Now I will never know. But anyways I have ran my mouth enough, but I needed to put in my 2 cents and I will sign off with this quote.. Never for a minute think that your pet did not trust you, or love you because he or she looked up to you ,you did not fail you did what you thought was right the harmful people behind all this will one day have to realise what tragic heartaches this made.. Maybe they need to taste test it before the put it on shelf. Or somthing but compainies really need to screen their staff in order to have high maintnence people working for them to find these problems sooner. It would seem a little less stressful had it happened to one brand but did you see the list.. MY GOD. My prayers to you whoever you are.. And prayers from my kitties too , MAY GOD WATCH OVER YOUR BABIES
For all of the people out there thinking they are going to be compensated for their loss or even reimbursed for their vet bills, wake up. Even if a class action lawsuit is filed, which we all know there will be one. You will be lucky if you see ten dollars from it. Why are people feeding their pets wet food in the first place is beyond me? Any vet will tell you that it is healthier and more beneficial to your pets if you feed them dry food over the wet food.
Now i have proof that iams cat food killed our cat of 10 years.we had to put her down about two weeks ago,the animal clinic did a blood test and said kidney failure it happened so fast(about 4 days, four cans),I told them we fed her indoor dry cat food for the most part but purchased a partial flat of iams soft canned cat food as a treat, now im shure i have checked the upc code on the cans the cans i have fed her and the 10 or 15 cans i have left are the ones being recalled,i know death is a part of life, but when life is taken before its time, thats wrong!!!!!!!!Im with the other pet owners who lost their beloved pets due to some one making a huge mistake, im upset and angery.
To who ever wrote "why are we feeding wet food to begin with". Some pets for medical reasons have to have wet food. I'm not going into the reasons why this may occur. But first before saying such a statement as if we are morons for feeding our pets wet food do the research.
We had a 7 year old beagle who we had to put down 2 1/2 years ago and she was completely healthy and took her for a teeth cleaning and they called and said she had kidney failure and I have a strong feeling that the food we had been feeding her had something to do with it. We just had another beagle of 11 years who had cancer of the sinus cavity and he went downhill really fast and now I can probably contribute that to the ol'roy wet pouch dog food. We have 2 other beagles we are watching very closely as they also ate the tainted food. We took the 2 1/2 year old for a blood test yesterday and no signs thank god but the blood test will only show signs if they kidneys are working 50% or less so we need to get a urine sample to get tested. I will tell you it is the worst nightmare to have to think that we have no regulations and this is the U.S.A. I would be willing to bet the reason so many are dying from cancer is all the crap in our food and water and the air we breath. This pet food company knows what they did and they need to be held responsible, but then again what do they care all they care about is the pretty penny and what they will lose. We are taking our baby off the Nutro dry effective today and switching to a human type dog food better yet I was thinking I might prepare my own.
For those of you who have pets that really like wet food, they can still eat it. There are a number of wet foods that are not made by Menu Foods. Innova, California Natural, Natural Balance, Merrick, Solid Gold, Nature's Variety, Eagle Pack, Evangers. The list goes on. These foods are all natural and contain NO WHEAT, NO CORN, NO BHT or BHA. They are all natural!
I found out my Dog was sick after her not eating and loosing weight i have fed her the OL'ROY CANNED AND DRY DOG FOOD Walmart Brand and i also have 3 other dog that I'm worried about. I lost one of my other dogs in 2003 I don't know the cause because it was sudden. On Feburary 24, 2007 I took her to my Vet, weighted her she use to weight 86 pounds and she went down to 72, then to 69 and he took X-rays, he found that one of her kidneys was enlarged, when i picked her up on the 26th he told me that I would have to take her to get a ultrasound. On March 6th I took her to the other Vet to do the ultrasound and the Vet told me that she had Kidney Failure and she doesn't have long to live she weighted 66 pound and loosing more. I took her home tried to feed her the Hills Prescriptation Diet K/D for the Kidneys she ate a little then after that she stopped eating. She was getting wourse now I had to force feeding her blended up boiled chicken, rice and other stuff my Vet told me to give her but she would just sit there and vomite it back up she had all the symptoms that is described in the recall. Well the last week of her life she spent with my family laying around the back yard where she loved to be I have had her since she was a puppy. On March 15, 2007 she was so bad that my husband told me that it was time to think about putting her down I called the Vet but it was on a Sunday and they were not there and then around 6:30-7:00 she passed away in our back yard on a bed of grass. I really miss her. I am really upset about this recall because it came out a day after she passed and they still don't know the cause of it. I would like to know what they are going to do for the people who have lost their cats and dogs due to this recall. I called Menu Foods yesterday (3/19/2007) I told then about my dog, they told me that they will have someone call me or email me back i have not heard from them yet (3/22/2007).
My dog died Jan 23, suddenly. He was lethargic that day, died the middle of the night. He always helped himself to the leftover kitty food, and we fed him the canned Old Roy food on occasion (not every day). My cat, Nala, died March 5, after being lethargic and staying away from the house for several days, a sure sign that something is seriously wrong. I found her across the street (dead) the same day that I took my kitten to the vet for illness. (I couldn't find Nala, or else she would have gone to the vet, too). I fed the cats Special Kitty pouches mixed with dry food twice a day. After the vet visit (before any of this even came out), I took the kitten off of the pouch food at the vet's recommendation and he seems to be his old self again. Hopefully, he won't end up like Nala.
We live in Westlake, and I just discovered our 3 dogs had been eating the recalled food for several months now (Nutro, Iams, Eukanuba)! Which probably explains their lethargy and depressed behavior. I quickly made an appointment to see the vet today to see if my 'babies' are O.K. To me, this is criminal. Why don't they test the food extensively before they sell it to unsuspecting customers? There should be stricter laws governing animal feed. Laws are good if they protect us and/or our beloved pets.
My name is Lin Croskey. My business partner & I own an all natural pet food store. We have not had any of the foods in our store recalled. This is only because the foods we sell are all natural and do not contain wheat or corn. They are all human grade. Check out our website at www.ingoodhealth4pets.com for a list of products that are not on the recall list and that are healthy for your pets. If you are too far away from our store, our site still links you to the product sites and you can do a store locator to find a retailer that is near you who sells the natural foods. Or feel free to call us at 330-908-1234. We have had our store for almost 4 years and we have seen a lot of dogs and cats have problems from eating foods that people have always thought were top of the line. If any product contains by-products, animal digest, wheat, corn, soy, BHA, BHT or Ethoxyquin I would not feed it to my pet. The foods we sell are all free from these ingrediants. I feel for evryone who has lost a pet or who has a sick pet because of the recalled foods and I agree that the FDA should pay closer attention to pet foods. Pets are not just pets, they are family members.
my kitty 'tonky'' has been peeing an awful lot since around Christmas time--i use litter like its going out of style..she was on special kitty pouches and cans up until a week or so ago..she is lazy and drinks bowl after bowl of water--she gets into the bathtub and paws at the faucet for more when her bowl is empty--i wonder what these companys are going to for restitution on our sick pets?? class action lawsuit anyone??
To my kitty tonky, If your kitty is drinking that much water take her to vet to find out why!!!!!! As far as a class action suit. I have no doubt that is going to happen but what are we going to get out of it. I for one am not looking for money out of it. What I want that I think is of most important to all of us is strict regulations of the food so we can count on the food that we are feeding our beloved pets.
It seems to me like there are far more pets dying due to sudden renal failure than what is reported in the news by reading just this one post! I am astounded. The numbers are going to pile up quick. Whoever here has lost a beloved pet due to suspect pet food should write a letter to the Menu Foods company. This will help them realize the magnitude of your loss. I had stocked up on cases of canned savory cuts science diet cat food for my Althea, which seem to be produced a year earlier than the tainted food but I am dumping it all. My cat is my family. Definitely there should be a law suit against all the companies that did not test the quality of their product manufactured by Menu foods, Menu foods themselves, and their vendors.
Google "genetically engineered grains" and start reading - this is why our pets are dying. We are eating this crap too. So much for grains being healthy.
We need a national 'newsmagazine' or reporter to 'dig in' and find out what is really going on at 'Menu Foods', and other companies that are poisoning our pets! Are these GENETICALLY ALTERED GRAINS responsible for all the recent pet deaths? And speaking of, why is the media underreporting the numbers of deaths? Many more dogs and cats have died that the media portray!!!
My dear cat has been eating Special Kitty for many years. She stayed at the vets since Monday and will be there until Saturday when I might be able to bring her home, if she survives the diagnosed kidney failure. She is on IV antibiotics and fluids and getting a cat form of dialysis. Thanks to the banks for credit cards. The vet said she has a 50/50 chance of surviving this round of treatment. After reading all these posts, I am heartbroken at all the beloved companions who have passed away or are suffering because of this tainted food but the comments bring comfort knowing that one is not alone with their worry and grief.
I want to start out by saying I am so sorry to all of you that are going through the same thing that I am. Mon march 19th 2007 I had to say good bye to me wonderfull third (child) Nakita She was a 14 year old siamess cat that ive had since i was 17. Words can not express the hurt im going though right now. I was feeding her the spiecal kitty pouch food from a local walmart, for years now. As you all probley allready know she died a kidney failure by the time i got her to the vet sun morning she was allready to far gone. we still tried the iv but the vet told me that it was to late. Word of advise do not feed your cat any gravy canned or pouch food the spiecal kitty that they have listed, matches what i have to the tee but the upc code is different the date and flavor are all the same so dont go by what they have listed. stay away from it all. I am at a loss i dont even now were to start to make them pay for what they have done to us, and i can tell you there is way more then ten of us out there. cant get though the telephone lines cant email were do we start??? If anyone knows please leave you comments for all of us that are running around out here going crazy with are broken hearts and anger for the people that killed are beloved pets. thanks for you time! Angela Anderson
Dont you find it pretty thought provoking that you pay a "premium price" for "premium pet food" only to find out that it comes from the same place that supplies grocery brand petfood? I mean hopefully some of the money that you pay is for a BETTER product...obviously not. Hmmm $1.89 for a can vs .59 a can, both getting products from the same supplier. So what are you paying for? Another food for thought is this....if the pet food industry cant regulate quality control on the canned food, who is to say that it isnt on the dry ? Personally, I would rather stick with a company such as BilJac that has a proven track record.

Hello,
I am the author of "Food Pets Die For" and "Protect Your Pet:" I was not surprise to see the massive recall of foods produced by Menu.
8 2006. He became sick in the summer from July until August . about a month
He was fed Old Roy pouch food. He had all the symptoms lose of appetite drinking a lot of water
diahrea, he weighed l2 pounds he lost 3 pounds . The vet didn't know what was wrong. Although he
was l4 , he had been in good health. I continued to feed him
Old Roy until the day before he
died. I recently just threw the
food away. I wish I had known.
Heartbroken

She
had symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, excessive thirst and she was very lethargic. We have always feed her
O'Roy canned dog food purchased from Walmart. We, now, suspect her sudden illness and death was due to this dog food recall. What do you think? And where do we go from here?
Saddened by the loss of our pet.

loree3,
I feel the same way.

It makes total sense that if you feed your pet quality food with real ingredients, they will thrive better and live longer.

wheres the list of pet foods? cant find it here???????

Found out today our cat is sick from this food. I called my vet and the first round of bills will be $150!
Who's paying this bill?

LET THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS BEGIN! THOSE BASTARDS NEED TO PAY FOR THE NEEDLESS DEATHS OF SO MANY OF OUR BELOVED COMPANIONS!
If there is to be a class action suit I definetly want to be involved. My beloved friend and companion is gone now due to this food.

Great info site w/buyers guide.”
TAKE THE TIME TO REMOVE THAT FROM YOUR WEB SITE, … YA THINK?!
Anonymous,
Thanks for the tip about the "Eukanuba" GoogleAd on our story page. We've blocked that ad, it should not appear in the next few hours.
Thanks.
I work in the pet industry and I can tell you all that I personally made sure that all affected products were removed from the shelf of our store as soon as we heard the news. I understand that many of you are worried as I am a cat and dog owner myself and are a user of the nutro wet products as well. Here are a few things to remember:
- many reputable pet stores are prepared to handle your problems.
BIG QUESTION:
What exactly was IN the food that caused kidney failure and other health problems for the pets.

My Cat of 11 years died Feb 28th
he always had dry food and only a few times a month I would feed him a pouch or can of wet food, I fed him the filet mingon under the recall.
coincidentaly he died 3 days after I fed him the recalled food from similar symptoms. he did vomit and was lythargic. I hope menu foods does
the right thing and pays for the vet bills and the bills for post mortum care.

I'm sure there are
many more than 10 deaths! Very sad! She was very communicative & is greatly missed.
HI
GOD BLESS ANONYMOUS
Its very upsetting to know that a food we thought we could trust is killing our beloved pets.
What the manufacturers aren't telling you:
