I find it absolutely ridiculous that the local news media devotes so much time to SNOW falling in Cleveland in winter. I have concluded that SNOW gives TV news departments the excuse they need to ignore REAL, IMPORTANT news about our community in favor of covering the weather. This is why I turn on CNN at 5PM when I get home from work, not Channels 3, 5, 8, 19 or 43.
It took two and a half hours to drive from Akron to Cleveland this morning. It took an hour just to get down Route 8. 271 was a parking lot. I'd probably still be sitting there if I hadn't gone down Northfield to Warrensville Center. This weather stinks.

It took me over 3 hrs to get from Geauga County to Independence. Rt 90 heading west had only wet road surfaces, yet it was bumper to bumper from Rt 44 in Concord to Willoughy. WHY?? The worst though was 77 south from downtown to Rockside Rd. It appeared to have not even been touched by road crews. Unbelievable and Unacceptable!
There was just as much snow in the road as their was in my driveway, and there was no snow on the side of the road indicating any snow plow had gone through. Something just seems wrong about that!
Take 3 freeways to get to work/I-71 (from Medina county), I-480 to I-271. I-71 was the worst! Took me 2 hours to get to work and 1 hour from Rt.303 to Pearl/Strongsville exit of I-71. ODOT really sucked on this one!!
I77 South after dead man's curve was absolutely terrible. One lane was piled with snow. You couldn't see it until you got around the curve. The guy behind me went sliding across all the lanes and hit both the center divider and the right guard rail. Not one truck was seen salting the road until you get to Garfield Heights. Wake up Cleveland!!!
I hour and 45 minutes to get from Olmsted Falls to Brooklyn. 480 Eastbound ( bumper to bumper) then Brookpark Road was gridlocked. Where were the plows? Eating breakfast?
I live in Olmsted Falls and travel to Brooklyn. Today whas a nightmare. I-480 Eastbound was bumper to bumper. I exited on Greyton only to fin Brookpark Road gridlocked. Where were the plows?
Too long. Parma roads were untouched. I-77 South was untouched until Route 18. Then it was a parking lot into Akron. I knew it was going to snow. Why didn't Parma or ODOT?
I left Parma around 7:30 and got to work in Solon just after 9:00. The streets in Parma were left untouched, 480 was snow-covered with bumper-to-bumper traffic, but the streets in Solon were relatively clear! ODOT needs to get their act together. The weather was supposed to be like this, you would think the crews would prepare for it overnight. Unacceptable.
Took an hour & a half to get from Lorain to Rocky River. There was bumper to bumper traffic all the way in 5 mph. There were no plows out. They called for 5 inches & we got it. Where were the plows???
took Detroit Rd. in from Avon b/c I90 was so slow . . . Avon was fine, Westlake better, ROCKY RIVER TERRIBLE, Lakewood good, Shoreway good . . . losers are ODOT and ROCKY RIVER!
I take the bus from the Westlake Park & Ride. There is usually a bus waiting at the stop at 7:45 but one didn't get there until 8:10. I got into work at 9:10 and that was with the bus taking Lake Road to Clifton. Not bad, but where were the plows?
Normally it takes me 45 minutes to get to work. Today it took me 2 1/2 hours! It was I-90 east-after a few miles I saw a disabled vehicle and thought that was the tie up, but it continued all the way from Crocker Basset through Dead Man's Curve! Where was ODOT? It started snowing LAST NIGHT-they should have salted or sprayed. It stopped snowing during the morning commute!
Coming from Concord on Rt. 44 to 90 West bound was a mess. Snail pace until I hit the accident at 90 & Bishop. The road was really slick there. Took me forever to get to work. Where was ODOT?
I tried to get on route 2 in Willowick, I noticed it was backed up so I took back roads. The back roads were even backed up. It took me over an hour to get from Willowick to Downtown. We didn't get that much snow?
It did not take me any longer to get to work today. The plows were out by me in Painesville. We're so used to snow, it's not even funny! This was nothing! Way to go snow plow people!
I drove from Cuyahoga Falls to Barberton this morning. This trip normally takes me 20 minutes. Today it took 50. The expressway was awful. Cars just crawled along.
Cuyahoga Falls has a great repuation for snow removal. But, not today. There was a lot of slipping and sliding.
Can't wait for the warmer weather to get here and stay here.
My commute from Kent to Mayfield usually takes about an hour, this morning it took 2 hours! Rt. 480 and 271 were like parking lots and the roads looked untouched... Why did I know about the snow 3 days ago, but ODOT didn't??
It normally takes me 35 minutes to get from Strongsville to NASA. Today it took about 45 minutes, but the roads were poorly plowed or not plowed at all. I am shocked that the Cleveland area is having so much trouble coping with a moderate snowfall accurately predicted in advance. Those responsible for deploying the snowplows did not do a good job today.
Left home at 7:10 am. Got on I-71 in Strongsville at Rt. 42. Took 1 hour to get to Fulton, got off I-71 at Fulton and took another 20 minutes to get downtown. The trip usually takes 30-35 minutes maximum during normal morning rush hour, today - 1 hour, 20 minutes.
At 7am it took me 30 minutes to get from W54th in Parma to 480 and State Rds in Cleveland (normally a 5 minute drive). I couldnt even get on 480 Eastbound - it was a parking lot. Parma roads were not plowed / salted at all that early in the morning. I have a large SUV with 4 wheel drive and was still sliding all over the place.
I am sick and tired of people whining about traffic. I am a private snow contractor and I know what difficulties ODOT faces when rush hour hits. People don't realize that the timing of a storm has a big affect on clearing the roads. This particular storm started coming down heavy at peak rush hour levels. When there is a lot of traffic the plows can't get around efficiently. It's easy to clear the highways when there isn't traffic!! When you have cars backing up it's impossible to clear the roads. People need to get a clue and sit in a plow truck for a day and see if they could do a better job!! The bottom line is that it comes down to the time the storm hits. Even a few inches can cause problems if it starts snowing close to morning rush hour. I feel sorry for ODOT!
I don't know where that O.D.O.T. official you have featured on your 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. broadcast was at 6:00 this morning, but he nor any snow plow crew had been anywhere near Northbound I-77.
It took me 2hrs to drive from Amherst to Cleveland this morning. ODOT had a report on a radio station... we sprayed.. cars need to drive on it for it to work... Well there were plenty of those this morning, and it didn't work, as usual.
I did not see one salt truck on the road doing their job!! Were they waiting for the snow to stop? What are we paying them for? As I was traveling no more than 25 mph I saw right accross where I work 4 salt trucks with the guys standing outside of their trucks drinking coffee!! My job is on a big hill too!! I wish I could get paid to do nothing in a time of need!!!!!
I live in Mentor, and my workplace is just 2 miles from my home. I did make it to work on time. The street where my plant is located was not as bad today as February 23rd, when the road was all icy and slippery. There was a lot of snow on the entire way from home to work, but I made it on time.
I left Conneaut to drive to Garfield Hts. and the roads were in good shape, considering 3-4" fell in 3 hours. It was slick but when you take your time and not get up 10 minuets before you go to work you would not have a problem either. I hit heavy traffic at 615 then it cleared after 306 then as soon as I turned on 480. Maybe if the people would all drive the same speed they wouldn't bottle neck everybody else up. ODOT you did a fine job I made it 20 minuets early even with the back ups. That's 79 miles I drove through the same stuff you whiners did. GET UP EARLIER AND STOP PUTTING BLAME ON ODOT FOR YOUR LAZINESS EVERY TIME!!!

I waited til after 10am to leave Brecksville and I-77 was still bumper to bumper. 50 minutes to get downtown and roads were fine. Why??????
I-90 west was a parking lot at West 150th at 9 a.m.
It was only 3 inches of snow!
I left Euclid at 7:30 a.m. and still didn't get to work until 9:10. ODOT didn't do a good job getting the streets prepared.
I drove in on 2 from Mentor and it was awful. It took me over 2hrs to get to Cleveland. What happen to the Snowplows.

WHERE WAS ODOT, EVERYONE KNEW IT WAS COMING, THIS IS NOT WHAT WE PAY TAXES FOR
Everyone at work, from east, west and south said the same thing, Where was ODOT? The roads were terrible.

An hour from the Euclid Park N'Ride to downtown! Ridiculous. The Shoreway looked like it hadn't seen a plow or a salt truck since the last snow!

My husband and I left at 6:30am from Whitney/Pearl Roads and arrived at Cleveland State University 80 minutes later.
The roads were snow covered and very slick.
