Your say: Airing of gunman's 'multi-media manifesto' sent to NBC
The video and pictures gunman Cho Sueng-Hui sent to NBC News have been all over the news and in the papers.
Some people feel it should not have been shown at all; others believe it needed to be shown help people understand and make sense of why he committed this heinous act.
We want to know what you think...

Of course it was proper to show this video! This is REALITY, and we should be witness to the ramblings and blurbs of this 'sick mind' so that we may educate ourselves about people like this. Mental illness is very prevalent in our society, and we need to find ways to 'reach out' to these individuals before they committ unspeakable crimes. Too bad that didn't happen at Virginia Tech.
NO WAY! That is exactly what this man (I should say animal!!!) wanted, that is the reason he did this! I can't even imagine how this made the families of these poor innocent people feel. I would of never aired this footage, it should of been given directly to law enforcment and NEVER aired! This only glorifies this sick event!
I think letting the public know that such a manafesto exists is one thing, but to continue to show it repeatedly is something else. Consideration of the families should be shown at all costs and to see and hear this maniac spout his evil cannot help them heal.
I think that if people want to watch and you wonder about the people who do, it should be available on the internet, not on every channel every second.
In, addtion to the people interviewed around Cleveland with comments like he must have been a very disturbed person - DO YOU THINK!!
Absolutely not!! Why should we give him the fame that he wanted when he did such a horrible thing to so many people and their family and friends?? Why not put the pictures of the victims on the front page or first thing in the news broadcast and honor them and the greatness they added to this world? Let's stop paying more attention to the deranged and celebrate the good people that are out there. If people realize that doing negative gets you splashed on the front page of every newspaper they will keep doing it. Stop making these people famous!!!
The only reason the news media aired this video was to help boost their ratings. To be honest I am sick and tired of hearing about this story already. What this nut job did is now done and over with, playing this crap out on the news everynight is not going to change that.
Now that the media has used this story for all it is worth, Im sure they will now move on to airing stories about the need for stricter gun laws in this country. Its the same cycle over and over, everytime something like this happens.
As for you people who believe that stricter gun laws in this country, would have prevented this mass killing from happening, wake up. Do you really think a criminal is not going to hold up a gas station or a bank just because it has a no firearms poster hanging on the door? NO, its just telling the criminal that everybody shopping in that store is unarmed and will be an easy tartget for them.
The only thing stricter gun laws will prevent, is your ability to protect yourself or your family lives, should you ever encounter a bad sitiuation.
Criminals do not and will not ever follow any type of guns laws. The only people stricter gun laws will protect is the criminal. There is a technical term for this theroy that most people in this country cant seem to grasp, its called common sense
NBC played right into this psychopaths hands...and did exactly what HE wanted them to do. I cannot believe that a major news network in this country has a staff that is so bent on ratings and making a buck to not see through the killers' intentions.
NBC had the opportunity to take the high road and report the fact that a manifesto was delivered, and that still protographs and a video were also sent. That would have been enough. But the highly paid executives decided it was more important to give a visual example for others to emulate.
NBC did not necessarily have blood on their hands during this tragic event, however their hands will be bloodied when the next maniac decides to "one up" VT's murderer.
When a news organization becomes "part of the story", it would be in its best interest for them to allow another network to report that news. They were much too close to the situation to be objective to make a sensible decision in this manner.
The opportunity is now upon the leadership of NBC to take the appropriate action in this matter and immediately terminate all upper level management that allowed this vulgar and insensitive material to be broadcast on our airwaves...
I've lost a great deal of respect once held for the news programs on NBC. There is absolutely no reason for airing the video/pictures sent to NBC by the VT gunman. Yes, it needed to be handed over to authorities; however, NBC did not have to air it. The only thing you are doing is glamorizing a killer and devoting all of this air time to a person who deserves no airtime. Also, it's no wonder there are so many copy cat incidents following something like this. If I were a parent of any of the kids killed, I would feel that NBC was only interested in doing exactly what the gunman wanted and increasing ratings rather than honoring the people who lost their lives and showing respect to their friends and family. What good comes from showing these pictures? Kids may look at these and think they are "cool," and without strong parental involvement, not be aware of the consequences for such actions. I know personally, I didn't benefit in any way from watching the video or seeing the pictures. It didn't lessen the pain I feel for these families. Do you think by showing the video that you have helped move the grieving process in a positive direction? If one of the kids killed were your one, would you feel it was necessary to show the content? Seriously, think about the impact of what you just did. I think too often people within media become numb to the impact of the decisions they make. It's all about the story, about getting headlines, grabbing more viewers than a competing station- how sad. The media is in the position to do something positive during a tragic situation, and you made a decision that does anything close to that. Yes, it's great that you have written information about each of the victims, however, you have spent more air time and news coverage on the gunman. If you knew that this was what the gunman wanted, why would you honor that request? He killed innocent people and you are more concerned about honoring his request. Not only have I lost respect for NBC, but I will no longer be investing my time or energy to watching any news programs or even shows aired by your network.
I believe that it should have, and still should be, posted on the internet to let people know what a modern killer acts like and talks about. but, that law inforcement should have been given it first and decided what was appropriet to broadcast.
We lost a few more soldiers in Iraq over the last week...There was an important decision on abortion reached by the Supreme Court. I guess the madman story is more important??!!
