I went to high school with Jason and have known him most of my life. We have truly lost a part of Avon's soul, where so many wonderful leaders of the community were reared.... The "old" Avon, where everyone - literally - knew each other, has come together to honor one of the kids that made Avon such a great place to live.
Someone carelessly took his life and, as of yet, has refused to take responsibility for his actions. Shame on him. He must live with what he did, and he will be judged on a different day.
For now, I know in my heart that Jason was welcomed by St. Peter with open arms. God needed Jason, for some reason, he needed Jason to do something wonderful. Maybe one day we'll know why...
I'm extremely saddened that I cannot be there with my Avon family to show my support for Mr & Mrs West and the rest of the community... my heart is there, and my prayers follow...
Officer West and his family are in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for serving officer.
God Bless.

My heartfelt condolences to the family of Officer West. Please know that earth has no sorrow that heaven can't heal. To Officer West - I thank you for your service and your sacrifice.
I am deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless murder of Officer West. I am from Avon, and drove past the luminaries being put out by many people who care.
I have been praying for Officer West, his family, his coworkers, and his loved ones, and I will continue to pray because it is someone like Officer West who should never be forgotten.
I am a resident of Cleveland Heights and I can tell you we have a wonderful police department. I am heartsick over Officer West's death. Without ever knowing him personally, although I'm sure I saw him at work as a member of our fine force, I know he died trying to make my neighborhood and community a safer place. My family will always remember your sacrifice.
