Not only have the gas prices soared, but has anyone else noticed that the amount of miles that they get per tank has decreased by about 1/3?

i think its rediculous that these gas prices have to go up so high so soon. I mean what are the gas companies upset because they can't wait to make there 100 million dollar profit instead of making the usual 90 million dollar profit it is so out of hand now that the greed in this world today just gets the better out of so many people.

Last year when the prices soared the Democrats were calling for invistigations. Now that there in control where's the oversight? These created "crisis's" are only there to push up profits...When are we going to get away from this type of energy that's controlled by nations that want to see our destruction and can hurt us just by increasing the price of our fuel.

It's pretty bad now when people have to choose between putting gas in their cars to go to work and buying groceries to feed their family. There is no reason why gas should be this high. These high gas prices have really cut into my food budget!!!!! Someone from DC needs to do something about this!!!!!

It has come to the point where I can either buy groceries for my family or buy gas to get to work. Between the two, I don't have a paycheck left. Maybe welfare would be a better option, free food and I wouldn't have to leave the house. It's gotten totally out of hand and out wonderful Government is right on top of it, just like usual! NOT!!!!

Politics being played with our pockets. It's just another one of those vast left wing conspiracies, to get more Democrats elected. They'll just blame all of the increases on Republicans. Maybe the politicians and the EPA should spend some time correcting the mistakes they made when setting up the gas taxes and emisssions regulations, instead of spending so much time "Bush Bashing".

It's funny how oil companies always find something to blame the increase on. Well, nothing has changed in the last 6 weeks, so whats with the increase? Oh yeah, I forgot...the weather is nice, so they want to gouge anyone that wants to enjoy it!

When is it enough? Is there someone that we can contact to try and stop this nonsense? And we wonder why the economy is going downhill...maybe if the oil industry's fat cats wouldn't be so greedy we could survive. Do they want to hook up an I.V. and drain some blood while they are at it??? This started way before Katrina. We need to quit relying on other countries for our oil supplies and start using what we have right here in the good old USA, but unfortunately that means environmental agencies would have quit interfering and take a back seat to the country's need. Thanks for letting me vent.

We all know the prices are high because they know they can get away with it, but I don't think economists stating the prices will continue to rise help the situation--it simply condones the gouging. Big oil should be paying huge windfall taxes, but once again our government reps. are not doing their jobs.

Completely unacceptable for record profits to be posted by the oil companies. Millions in bonus monies to operating officers. Their failures to maintain their plants to keep production levels low causes supply to appear low so they can increase prices, this has all been manufactured by the oil companies. Our elected officials have a responsibility and they are failing us, because they are in the profit stream.

My husband and I have already limited trips, and will not be traveling this summer as in years past. We are definitely feeling the strain without a decent explanation. Two years ago, we were told prices had gone up because of "weather conditions." What say now? I agree the greed level in this country is soaring to new heights along with the gas prices. It can't go on like this for long. My fear is how it will break.

The time has come for the American public to say "enough".
You can't boycott the gas companies; you need to get to work, etc.
What can you do? Get ahold of your senators and congressmen/women and raise holy hell. Tell them a total and thorough investigation of these gas conglomerates is needed IMMEDIATELY. These gas companies keep reporting record profits quarter after quarter after quarter. They are givne tax breaks. Yet a new refinery hasn't been built in this country in many, many years.

I KEEP HEARING ABOUT THE SUPPOSEDLY GAS SHORTAGES BEING DUE TO REFINERY PROBLEMS. WHY DON'T THE OIL COMPANIES INVEST SOME OF THEIR MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN PROFITS TO BUILD NEW REFINERIES? I'm writing my congress person and senator to demand government intervention in what I perceive as a monopolization of the fuel industry and price fixing by the oil companies. Have you noticed that no matter when gas in the ground is purchased, the price at the pump is dictated by the so called current barrel price increase and not the original price. I feel that if we the consumer don't take a stand all the other industries will try to follow their lead.

Be honest, be entirely honest about this. What do any of you do to use less gas? We all use the "I have to get to work excuse" but other than work what do you use your vehicle for? I'll bet if you really think about it the high prices have not changed your driving lifestyle much if any.

My opinion is the oil companies know in the big picture they only have a limited time left to make these record profits (by limited time I mean 15-20 years) and there will at some point in this time frame be an alternate to gasoline to power our vehicles. Until this time comes I think we will simply have to pay what they tell us to. Moaning to congress is going to do nothing. Blaming the president is going to do nothing. Oil is business, big business. Why is it the record breaking companies in this country are always the bad guy? In the 90's you all hated Microsoft. I hate seeing the high prices at the pump as much as the next guy but I'm also a realist and know there is little to nothing we can do about this.

One guy on here said "are the gas companies upset because they can't wait to make their 100 million dollar profit instead of making the usual 90 million dollar profit" Try multi-billion dollar profits not millions.

I do feel for the people who are less fortunate than I am. I can't imagine having to be stressed over filling a gas tank to get to work.

To bad we can't all work from home and limit the amount of gas we use. See how they like that.

I am at apoint being a single parent that I would be better off to loose my job and go on welfare and section 8. I can't continue to pay the high cost of gas, auto insurance, daycare, and other bills. I thought we wanted people to become self sufficient. I know I certiantly want to be. This can't happen with the gas prices rising, because along with them rising so does the price of everything else.

I have had to go to a food bank for the first time in my life. I feel horrible doing it, but otherwise I won't get to work or my kids won't eat or both.

Thanks for everything Bush and the idiots who voted him in a second time.

What's the use? I remember when the price of gas stayed at one price for a year or better. The gas crisis in the 1970's brought on by Ronald Regan started all of this. This is so sad. When you go for a loan for a house or a car, they ask you what your gross income is, not what it cost you to live. Everything goes up but the paycheck and when you get a little bit of a raise, the price of gas goes up, the price of heating your home goes up, the price of groceries goes up, the price of health care goes up, and no one can do a thing about it. What ever happened to the Alaskan Pipeline? Wasn't that supposed to supply the United States with crude oil for gas? You don't hear anything about that. Nothing to do but bite the bullit, put your home in forclosure, file bankruptcy and let the state take care of you. You would think that instead of sending billions of dollars overseas to a country that is waiting to stab us in the back, we could use that money to be more self sufficient in our own nation. Why is it at gas can be $2.09 at 10:00 am, and at 10:15 am it is $2.99? Who allows this to happen? This is the same gas that was in the tank 15 minutes earlier. Did the gas fairy come in and switch the gas or something?

We have family in the UK. It's almost $6/gallon there. Maybe the higher prices will finally get us to stop our wasteful use of gas (huge cars, driving everywhere we go, building cities that are sprawled all over the place.) We've cut back on our driving. Last summer we rode our bikes more. I don't want to do it for everything, but it worked for most trips. And we're in our 50s! We still could cut back more, though.

Why is it that most of the postings here comment on blaming the recent high gas prices on the oil companies, the president, the war etc.? I read in a recent article this week, that the main reason for the price increases is because of supply and demand. The article stated that demand for gasoline has actually increased over 1.5% from the same time last year. Yes, I am just as mad as everyone else, but I have yet to see someone state what they are doing about it. I did something about it back when gas prices originally spiked when Hurricane Katrina hit. when prices hit $3 then, I took it upon myself to do something about by getting rid of my large vehicle and getting a high efficient vehicle that gets 50% more gas mileage than I was getting before. So now that prices are going over the $3 mark again, I now only have to pay $28 to $32 per tank full, vs. the $50 to $60 I would have paid if I would have keep my large vehicles.

This has to stop. Not only does this have an impact on us to go anywhere, but it also impacts food and all durable good prices - since so much is trucked in. The government, doesn't realize (since they don't have to follow a budget) that we only have so much when it comes to financial resources. We can't just go and print more cash for ourselves. This is a surefire way of throwing the economy into a depression. Government needs to do something for a chance to stop this.

Amen to that. I did the same, went from a <20mpg gas pig car to one that averages in the 60s (a hybrid). Best thing I ever did.

As to those lunatics who keep driving oversized SUVs and then whining about the price of gas, well, if they want to find the culprit all they need to do is look in the mirror.

The ONLY chance prices have of going down is if we reduce the demand. That means using less. SUV drivers, take note please.

When you pay the 3.19 a gallon you tell the big oil companies that you are more than willing to pay whatever they want to charge and they know you are willing to pay them. That is reality.

and here is where Clevelander's get pinched again! Do you think they care about gas prices in Chicago, New York, D.C., Baltimore, San Francisco, L.A. or any other major metro area? NO!!! Because they have a REAL regional transportation alternative...rail services and subways! They have a quick alternative! I can't take the bus in Cleveland becuase it takes to long. Cleveland cannot be a world class city without a better mass transit sytem that gets people from the suburbs to the downtown area(to work or play!) Look at a map...successful cities have trains...Cleveland does not! I live in Lake County and would spend more money donwtown if I had a way to get there quickly and inexpensivly! Who wants a train system that is "regional" but only goes to East Cleveland! Contact the RTA nad demand rail extansion across Northeast Ohio. Ask what happened to the study from 2001 that showed it would be a success AND already paid for by UD federal grant monies! The rest of the countries metro areas won't feel this gas hike as much as Cleveland...mark my words. You can contact me on my comments at ema_nymton1@hotmail.com

On May 15, everyone should refrain from buying gasoline. Just one day. The companies will lose a big chunk of money. Then when you do buy gas, only put in $10.00 at a time. No fill up. When tried once before, gas prices fell $.30 a gallon. Not sure if it would work again, but, worth a try.

I drive to and from work, which is over 90 miles round trip and I drive no where else because I cannot afford it. Thank goodness I have a car that gets about 34 to 35 miles/gallon, but that doesn't make up for paying almost $3.00 a gallon. If gas prices continue to rise, as they say they will, then this country will be in a recession. The American people will not be able to afford to do anything, and this will result in a downward slide in our ecomony. I have come to believe that there are rich people and even richer people. I consider myself part of the working class poor. I can only wonder how those on a fixed imcome can survive.

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on MAY 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

My Thought would be for someone to picket every station on May 15th..
Anyone that has any ideas to help achieve this, please let me know~

If everyone cut back on "unnecessary " expenses lie eating out or shopping for clothing just for a few days the economy would take a serious hit. WHY DO YOU THINK EXON MOBILE MADE $39.,000,000,000 PROFIT IN THERE FIRST QUARTER THIS YEAR. THATS $39 BILLION, NOT MILLION. NOW YOU WOULDENT CALL THAT GOUGING THE PUBLIC WOULD YOU ?

With these high gas prices, I wish that someday a car company could sell a tiny car that could get 60 miles per gallon or better, similar to those tiny cars sold in Europe, Japan, China, and South Korea. Price it under $10,000, and they will sell like hotcakes. Those cars sell well overseas, where gasoline is $6 a gallon or more.

And people wonder why I keep saying I'm getting horses and a wagon. I figured it out and it would be cheaper for me to run a team to town (I live in carroll county) than too drive my truck. Their is something wrong when it cost me more money in gas every month than for food for horses.

this is out of hand, i never thought i'd see the day gas going over 3$ or having to pay 20$ for 6 whole gallons. wow, that's gonna get me real far! is it 2008 yet? screw you bush

I think we should file a class action lawsuit against all dealers, their employees, & suppliers. This crap has got to stop right now.

To:
Mr.Stephen Dyer
State Representative
District # 43

Enough, is Enough

The previous State Officials would not do anything with the Petroleum, or Sweet Crud Oil Industry, with regard to the blatant, Price Fixing and Price Gouging, that took place then, which I thought was and is Illegal to perform.
So what and when will the present State Officials act against such acts? Almost everyone sees these actions time and time again. In their neighborhood Service Stations. See What, you ask? See them all raise and lower prices at the pumps. Anywhere from $0.15 cents to $0.30 cents, per gallon, with no change in their cost of delivery and they all do this at the same time. HELLO!
Not to long ago, remember when the cost per barrel of oil dropped to approximately $53.00 dollars a barrel, in January 2007?
Well, first using the Petroleum Industry's own formula, that should have been app. $2.04 per gallon at the pumps.
So at this time our local TV channel # 5, had an Oil Industry representative on the news program, to ask why the price at the pumps did not come down with the cost reduction. That CLOWN sat there and said. Well, the price at the pumps are set for price delivery a month in advance.
Okay, well what happened a month later? We did not see that price did we?
However let one person in the news media say the price of gas at the pumps is going up,( like a dummy ),
and what do you see? The Gas Station Attendant running out to the sign to up the price.
Well, once again what happened to the previous set price from the previous Month?
Now look at the Month of April, Easter weekend, See what happened, Thursday evening the price jumped $0.24 cents per gallon, up to $2.79 per gallon, and all the Stations did this at the same time, within a two (2) mile radius. Strange!
Once again using the Petroleum formula per barrel at $60.00 dollars a barrel the pump should be app.$2.22 per gallon. At $65.06 per barrel the pump should be app. $2.34 per gallon. The figure of $65.06 per barrel is the price on 04/25/2007. So where does the $2.99 per gallon come from, a $0.55 cent over charge to the Public?
Please do not think, Supply and Demand, when we only get 4% from the Gulf supply and about the same 4% from the Alaska pipe line, and the State of Wyoming is setting on a reserve that makes the Middle East
reserve look like nothing.
Something has to be done!
Thank You
Sincerely,
I have written to all my State and Federal reps., and also the local news paper and a T.V. station.
AND NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONCE!

It's time the government steps in. Many summer plans are going to be canceled. We have already canceled 3 planned trips because of these prices. Many businesses will suffer. Tourism will hit bottom. If the oil companies didn't pay millions to their CEO's they would have to raise prices. It hurts the low and middle income families right where they buy groceries.

I think that what is going on is wrong. The price of everything is going up and our paychecks stay the same. It is coming to a point that we have to deceide if we can buy food for our kids, take them to the doctor or buy gas. I have a thirty gallon tank and get 10 miles to a gallon if I am lucky. I can't afford a new car so I have to deal with my old van. My kids wear thrift store clothes and we can't spend more than $15.00 on new shoes per kid. Forget about trying to take them on spring or summer break. Baseball games are going to kill us this summer with these high gas prices. We want our children to be happy but how can we afford to? I'll be at garage sales looking for baseball equipment. Let's take away the politicians gas allowance. If they had to pay for the same things we common people do, maybe they'd stand up for what's right and stop all the madness.

Everybody can thank the people who voted Bush in to office. NEVER put an oil man in office. It will get worse. He wants to make as much money as he can, while he can. We are paying more now than we did last year at this time and it's not even summer.

I'm not driving on the 15th!!! Take a stand..wish our state reps worried about the gas prices as much as they worry about the strippers..we're getting stripped by the oil companies and they don't do a thing.

I think that what is going on is wrong. Everything is being raised except our wages. We as parents now have to choose to take our kids to the doctor, buy food or fill up the tank. I have a thirty gallon tank and get ten miles to a gallon if I am lucky. Can't afford a new car so my old van will have to do. We can't even think about spring or summer break trips. Baseball season will kill me this year. As it is we buy the kids clothes at the thrift store, we don't spend more than $15.00 on shoes and don't go out to eat. What more do these people want? Our first born!? I don't understand how gas can raise twenty five cents in a matter of minutes and decrease in pennies. I think the politicians should have their gas allowances taken away. Maybe then they will be what we as common people have to deal with and put up a real fight, not one that is staged for our sake. No wonder Cleveland has such a high foreclosure rate. We can't afford to live anymore. RTA must be getting a kickback too. Think I would use a bus and jeprpadise my families welfare? Not on your life! Family of six and want to stay that way!

Impeach Bush, he's the one letting this happen! More cheaply refined gasoline sold more expensive than before only means we're lining the pockets of some oil tycoon. This needs to end. Write the congressmen, make it KNOWN to them that this is an issue. Bitching on the internet means nothing. Writing to your congressman over and over and over and over and over and... you get the point works over time if enough people write and keep it up until the matter has been through to someone's attention.

Think it's about time the government (not the president or vp ) investigate the need for these outrageous prices. The oil companies should be required to explain in detail just why this is necessary other than greed!

Crime will go up, Desperation will be rampant

Current lawmakers could pass a temporary 'fix' by releasing some of our oil reserves (US) or repeal all taxes (state, local, federal) until prices get under 2.50/gallon minimum. They could also impose/offset this with a tax/surcharge to at least the US based oil companies (Exxon, Mobile, etc)that can well afford a hit after RECORD breaking PROFITS.
Or offset with less war spending.

I recived this in an email today i thinks it a great idea.
NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on may 15th.In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in
protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices.
Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon. There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet
network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take$2,292,000,000.00
(that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day,
so please do not go to the gas station on
May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

Crude oil price is down!
We are getting screwed! And YES, our milage is gowing lower too! You can thank our government and ourselfs for not doing anything about it. We keep driving - we keep paying and that is what drives the price up. We need to not drive to see a price decrease. Yes, we are that stupid....

I've been watching the price of oil pretty closely for the last few years. A barrel of oil is about $10.00 less now than it was last year when we were paying $3.00 a gallon for gasoline. Hmm. They keep talking about oil shortages, but has anyone pulled up to a pump and wasn't able to get gas yet? Hmm. And I noticed that the price of gasoline at all the different stations went up within about 10 minutes of each other yesterday. Is that a conspiracy? Hmm

Has anyone noticed that; if the jobless rate is going up,the only jobs popping up are retail and big box stores, where is the money coming from to pad the stock market. Something worse is on the horizon.

I believe the rise in gas prices is all about a greedy president, talk about being a legal theif. They don't care about anyone except for this war, which I'm getting sick and tired of hearing about and this war is taking away from the american people. It is pretty bad that it takes $50.00 dollars to fill a gas take up. That means that we have to closely watch were we go. I'll be walking to go get my children from and to school. And no summer trips anywhere also. We will be spending all of our time at home in the back yard. And the people that are on welfare, is also having it just as bad, Most are able to only fill there take up once or twice a month if they are lucky and that is it and try to use that to make it to doctors appts or to get groceries. So if anyone thinks that being on welfare is being on easy streak. Think again, it's even worst. And alot of people don't have the money to get hybrid cars because their income is limited. We need to get Bush out of office, I can't wait until his term is over, He's been screwing our country for way to long.

Public - we voted for u!

it has become a sad pitiful state where us commoners can no longer put faith and trust within our government to work for the good of the people, they are just lining their pockets with oily wads of money courtesy of the oil industry to keep their mouths shut. not only does the cost of gasoline rise, but so does everything else that has to be delivered logistically, therein lies a potential saviour. if the the transportation (truckers) were able to boycott or strike in large numbers, that would surely get the attention of the politicians and possibly end this madness
