I saw the price per gallon go from $3.25 to $3.49 today while the commodity price dropped .09 cents. Based on the theory used to raise the price, the price at the pump should be $3.05 in the morning.
To support the current price per gallon of gas the price of a barrel of oil should be around $80 not the current $64. The U.S. is lacking the refining capacity needed to produce gas, not a greater supply of oil. There hasn’t been a new refinery built in 30 years and it would take years to get another on-line.
This is silly. We all ought to be ashamed of ourselves for letting this happen. We can control these prices by simply refusing to pay them.
Oil prices are low and yet the price of gas continues to soar. There is just not enough of us that care enough for anything to change. People just keep paying and paying no matter how high the price and no questions are asked.
The consumer gets what they deserve. If for one week we would all cut our gas usage, just cut it not stop all together the price would fall so fast the wind it creates would cool the air temp. I was out on Sat. going to the bank and the streets were just clogged with folks going nowhere, just driving to be driving.

That is correct that the US has limited refining capacity. And the Feds. allowed a Shell refinery to close in CA. a year or so ago.
If you notice, every year in the spring there is refining "problems" in the US. You really dont think the oil companies will move to fix the problem when they are raking in record profits.
Just think if the state and feds didnt tax the gas so much. I think it is about 40 to 44 cents per gallon tax. I wonder where all that cash goes, specially after seeing how the roads are in such disrepair.
There is NO REASON in the world short of a "declared war" that the price at the pump go from $3.09 at 8AM to $3.49 at noon!! The oil companies are getting richer and there's no way in the world to stop it! Enough is ENOUGH! They oil companies CEO's and boards should be dragged into the street and horsewhipped!
The prices are not due to "refining capapbilities" or low oil stockpiles. I believe the gas prices are high because the oil companies know that people are traveling alot right now. They price gouge during the 'driving season' and lower the prices in the fall and winter, thus keeping the yearly average cost of gas lower. Every time they jack the price up, when they lower it again, it is a little higher than last year...and no one notices because we are just happy not to pay $3.50 a gallon.
I don't understand why our government can't see that one commodity due to greed, is causing our economy to collapse.Everybody i know is scared to death to buy anything significant right now, are ending up using credit cards to buy food and pay bills, they won't be able to keep up with credit card payments and the price to fill up your tank a month SHOULD NOT equal your car and insurance payment. I thought this administration was keen on spending to keep the economy going when all this crisis has done is stifle spending. Congress should pass a bill ASAP to put some kind of extra tax on these oil companies (take your pick LOL) put the money in a tax fund for the very purpose it should be used for, then pull the taxes from the gas prices, (even if it has to be temporary). Make the oil companies absorb the cost to keep gas prices down since they are the ones that can afford it from ripping the public off to begin with. The gas stations should be monitored more closely also, way too much sneaky gouging going on throughtout all the gas chaos and impose heavier fines and jail time on the gougers.
It must be a Holiday weekend. So lets gouge the travelers at the pumps...
Now, I am no expert at the workings of gas economics. But even I wonder how the price always jumps up right before the weekend, and drops again come Monday...
But we are a fat lazy country, so riding a bike just won't work for most in ohio...
It's bad enough the consumer has to pay these high prices once when they buy gas, however, I have already noticed price increases in food and other commodities due to the increased gas prices in order to ship these from the wholesaler to the retailer. The economy of the nation is on the verge of a collapse unless the oil companies are reigned in on their greed for hugh profits.
lets try stay at home vacations this summer. this should help with the supply "problems". this is what we get for putting two oil men in the white house. lies, an endless "war" and high energy prices.
Congressional and attorney general intervention is needed to explain today's gas prices. I think that everybody from Big Oil down to the corner gas station should open their accounting books to the public to see if their actions can justify these price increases. However, solutions such as price controls and windfall profits taxes would not work...the main reason why there were gasoline shortages, long lines at gas stations, stations closed more than they are open, and purchase limits (such as 10 gallons per customer) in the 1970's was because of price controls put on gasoline during the Nixon, Ford, and Carter administrations. Oil companies and refineries were forced, via price controls, to sell gasoline for less than what it would cost to produce, and that both disrupted retail gasoline supplies and discouraged exploration of new crude oil supplies. While gasoline is more expensive than ever, the silver lining behind these high gas prices is that it would encourage conservation (such as switching from a larger vehicle to a smaller vehicle) as well as to fund drilling of new oil reserves, expand and build new refineries, and develop alternate ways of powering our vehicles, such as hydrogen and ethanol. Curse all you want about high gas prices, but many people would rather pay $3.50 per gallon for readily available gasoline than to not be able to buy gasoline at any price if price controls, etc. were put in place. Price controls on gasoline won't work. It hasn't worked in the past, and it won't work now.
There is only one reason for the rising gas prices GREED! With Bush and his oil related friends why would they want any of these prices to drop. Do you really think Cheney or Bush would lean on the oil companies to be realistic. Do the oil companies realize the ripple affects this will have on all other businesses. Say goodbye to the middle classes. These outrages prices hurt the people the most in the middle. The wealthy are not nearly as impacted as those who were in the middle classes. This takes a bigger percentage of hours spendable income than it does for those in the wealthy levels. Unfortunately people still need to go to work and must therefore use gasoline to get their. I have sent e-mail to both the governor of my state and to the White House.
Reducing our usage of gas is a key way to make an impact on gas spending. Lower demand will lower prices in the long term. Come check out http://20days.org to see what we're doing about it.
I am a single working mom. I am also a massage practitioner. I used to have $900. months. Now I might make $70 - $130 a month, from 18 clients down to 2 or 3 clients a month. People who used to get massage for their health can no longer afford the cost of a massage, in turn, I can no longer afford . . . well, much of anything. I have recently thought I may have to check out the welfair and food stamp programs. I hate too, but when it costs $48 for gas instead of $20, the money has to come from some where. Just like my clients, more money for the gas tank and less money for the electric, food, clothing, forget the extras. - Ms. Victor

Taxes should be cut on gas. Much of the price is for taxes. This high price fo gas has a very devastating effect on lower income people.
