Fans sound off: Do you think television network announcers showed Cavs a lack of respect?

Many Cleveland fans were rubbed the wrong way after the Caveliers first game against the Spurs in the NBA Finals.

Following a tough loss, many believe television network announcers showed the Cavs a lack of respect in their coverage.

What do you think?

No, the television announcers did not show a lack of respect. The Cavaliers did not play well, they point it out, I don't like to hear someone point it out, but its a fact, and its their job. Don't worry, LeBron will make adjustments and will come back strong in Game 2. This series is far from over, and when the Cavs paly well, they will get their respect.

hello my name is matt and i'm from strongsville. this morning as i watched espns coverage of the game i couldn't help but hear them disrespecting to cavs. saying it looks like the spurs are gonna win there 4th nba finals. to me i think they are wrong and did we not show the pistons how quickly we can rebound. maybe the spurs and all the critics can shove there no good comments on the cavs up there cram holes. so this is matt saying GO GET EM CAVS and show the spurs no mercy and let them that we are one for all, all for one.

The announcers from out of town always lack respect for any Cleveland team. They aren't used to seeing a Clevaland team in the playoffs. It's a good thing we have the Cav's or else no one would know Cleveland even had any professional sports teams.

I do feel the Cavs have been given a lack of respect, let's remember that no one thought the Cavs would make it past the Pistons, well they certainly proved themselves in the eyes of all their fans. I felt the announcers of last nights game excluding maybe one of them do not give the Cavs enough credit. Yes, their a young team, but I feel they have ceratinly showed that they can "Rise Above" and do the unexpected.

It is my opinion that sportscasters should not be biased towards any team when they are broadcasting on a national stage. The Cavs got to where they are by going through very good teams and have earned their place in the finals. Commentators who do not appreciate that (such as the ones from last night's games) do the sport a disservice.

Thanks
Ivan

Yes, I do think that the announcers showed a lot of disrespect for the Cavs.

They absolutely were biased against the Cavs. They'd better hope we don't find out where they're staying when they come to Cleveland or they could be facing a week of sleepless nights as people call their rooms and honk car horns outside their windows continuously.

All sports announcers are biased and favor the "big" teams - those that are popular and have had winning records - regardless of what another team may have done.
This is also true in most media coverage for just about anything - a sad fact of our society today.
It's about time all of the media types reported the game itself and the news reporters reported the facts themselves instead of allowing personal views into their reporting. It all sucks and nobody wants to hear their "opinions" anyway.

I don't think the analysts during the game were disrespectful to the Cavs. However, I do think they did a terrible job calling the game. We have been spoiled with the great game coverage by TNT. This is the NBA Finals - let's get some good analysts - are you kidding, that ABC couldn't find someone better than Mark Jackson. Come on!

Cleveland fans are 'cry-babies'! Stop blaming the announcers for a game that was not played as well as it could have. The Cavs need to 're-group' and find their groove like they did against The Nets and The Pistons!

Maybe it's just me, but when ever a Cleveland team, regardless the sport is on a national brodcast the announcers seem to be very negative in their comments regarding our teams.
It shows a lack of sportsmanship on the announcers part and does nothing to highlight our city or our teams.
The worst part is that the negativity becomes more obvious the better our team is doing.
Take for example the Indians this season where all the talking heads went on and on about how great the Tigers are this year. Now look at who is in first place?

The Cavs need to earn their respect. They played poorly.
If they come out Sunday and play the same the NBA will be worried because most fans will turn off the TV and not watch the rest of the series.

Respect has to be earned, and the Cavs didn't earn it with their Game 1 performance. These announcers are giving their opinions and that is their job. The harsh comments about the Cavs' performance are all the motivation the team needs to prove the critics wrong. Go CAVS!

Yes, the Cavs played lousy in many respects last night. However, from the onset, the broadcasters basically stated that they had no chance to win the series. In the end, in doesn't matter, the Cavs have Cleveland's respect, and that is all that matters! Irregardless if they win or lose, they have proven their ability, and I forsee that we will be "witnessing greatness" for many more years to come. As for the broadcasters and their opinions, forget it, we'll shut them up (or give them another excuse to put us down) when we win this series! Go CAVS!

Agree...stop being a bunch of crybabies...let's face it...Cleveland will always be a bridesmaid and NEVER a bride...and that goes across the board, not just the Cavs, but the Browns and Indians too...and besides, in the grand scheme of things, it's only sports...not the war, not the price of gas, I'll stop here.

The Cavs may have played poorly but they did receive a lack of respect from the announcers. Did they forget that we did earn our way to the finals, we did beat Detroit!!!! We are in the finals and we have beaten the Spurs before, if and when we do win, they will all be back on the band wagon praising our king. GO CAVS!!!!

This is the NBA Finals we are talking about. These two teams represent the best of the best. They are the best in their conference and are only there because it was earned. Both teams, regardless of the city they call home, deserve the respect of the announcers. There is nothing more to prove and if these announcers cannot give the respect that is deserved, then the network should fire them. These teams and their fans deserve better.

Lets cry some more, whaaa they don't like us, whaa they don't respect us. This is why we don't get the respect. Let's win a couple of championships and then we will get the respect due us like the Spurs, Patriots, Yankees and others get. Be happy the team is still playing and enjoy the games and quit coming off like a bunch of crybabys

Bernice: It matters little what the announcers has to say. Look how far they have come. We as a city and the Cleveland media needs to be more receptive to the possibility of a winner and not talk about a jinx on the cover of Sports Illustrated. I don't think Cleveland as a whole is ready for a winner.

Reporting the facts is one thing. Did we play badly last night? Yes! So report that. But I had read comments....even days BEFORE the game....such as "The Spurs are unbeatable." & "Well it looks like the Spurs will have their 4th championship win." Obviously we beat them twice during the regular season....how does that make them unbeatable? There is no such thing as a sports team that is unbeatable. Also, how can it be a fact that they will have their 4th championship win when one game had not even yet been played??? Even now that Game 1 has been played, and we lost. So what? It's best out of seven...now that IS a fact.

Quit crying about the announcers. Fans said that in the Detroit series until they did something then the announcers would not shut up about how great the Cavs are. Announcers go with the winner all the time, just be thankful it is not the Lakers and Kobe you are playing or we might all be sick. Remember you can always listen to Joe Tait who is better than any announcer out there. Trust me I am a Detroit fan and can still say it!!!

The team of announcers for a finals series was absolutely horrible. Biased or not Abc should be ashamed of themselves.

Get over it...get used to it.
Turn on WTAM 1100 and try to fix the delay.
