Browns trade Charlie Frye: Was it the right move?
Browns fans have many questions about the direction of their team -- especially after Sunday's poor performance against the Steelers. Here are some questions we've been asking around the newsroom today -- what do you think?
Did the Browns get enough for their trade to Seattle?
When should Quinn start?
Did the Browns make the right move?

No way!It was not only him that played bad. It was the whole taem.
1. They got a 6th rounder for an NFL starting QB? They didn't know he wasn't a true starter BEFORE the season started. More mediocrity from the Browns ownership and GM. This is even more reason to root for the Steelers! Start Brady in Week 5 AFTER the Bengals and Ravens games or it will be the Tim Couch sequel.
It's the "Same old, same old" out of the Brown's office. Why do we keep wasting our early draft picks on more QBs when the Browns will just trade them for less than what they're worth?! Why do we keep all the worthless offensive linemen that cannot protect even the most mobile quarterbacks?!
Let me make a prediction: week 9, the Browns will have some pitiful record like 2-7. The head honchos will blame Romeo and say he has to win the next 3 or 4 games. When they have set him up to fail, like the last three coaches, they'll fire him.
Jeez, I thought we got rid of cruddy owners and management when Art packed up and left.
Start Anderson or get Leftwich- let Quinn learn and prepare.
I wish Frye well- he has fair skills, needs more coaching and practice.
People do the math. You are paying 2 QB the minimum salary 250,000 a year and picked them up in the 3rd round or free agency and then you pick up a 1st round pick and are paying him 4 to 5 million a year who do you think your going to start at that position? Start Brady as soon as you can. Charlie is a good back up if your starter goes down and so is Anderson or Dorsey.
lame.
That kid was set up to fail. You could tell he was coached to stay in the pocket at all costs, which of course is where his weaknesses are well known. He wasn't that good, but he was a Willard boy who grew up a Browns fan. Imagine being run out of town after starting and getting beat up by the Steelers.
Sad thing is, I think it was the new offensive line that was the
problem, and the fact they fell behind early. You have guys starting
who were new to the team, a new offensive system, guys who were injured
the entire preseason, and a suspect receiving corp. So they decide to
run the local kid out of town rather than the blundering defensive
coordinator who is out of position at head coach. Later in the year,
the line should improve, and they won't play the Steelers every week. They may even catch all of their long snaps
It's funny that the fans of a perennial contender are happy about the acquisition of Frye and think it was a "steal" of a trade. Yet the fans and media of a perennial loser are happy that he's gone. What does that say about the loser?
I trust Holmgren's decision making over Savage and Crennel (who are both gone after this season) But who will Lerner want? Cowher, or Weiss (who will be available after going 2-10 with the Irish this year)
The Browns are lucky to be able to get anything at all for him. He should have been traded on draft day when they took Brady Quinn. The trade was the correct thing to do. The next correct thing to do is start Brady Quinn NOW! Look at history, Troy Aikman, Dan Marino, etc. all started early in their careers and benefitted from it.
Charlie never had a chance. Once again Cleveland Browns do not protect the QB. Simply said - I wish him well. He is a class act and it is NO way his fault. Cleveland Browns organization needs to get it right at the TOP and not let these good players take the heat for those at the TOP! There is NO planning from the TOP down and I can see better football at Little League.
I think Berea made a big mistake this time. I think Frye had alot of potentail, and now its all going to the seahawks. So now the rules are have a bad day and ya get traded. Well what about the rest of the guys who played bad. I think starting him against the steelers was a set-up so they could get rid of him. I hope he leads the seahawks to a superbowl, just to show the jerks in Berea how much they screwed up!
That was a good thing I think they should trade Anderson Too. Then get Quinn in the action. What I they waiting for when the season id over like every year they do.
Maybe trading is a way to go. But now we have Ken Dorsey and Derek Anderson to choose from i don't know if the move was to make the situation better or to cover the offices behind to prove they are trying to do what it takes to win. Now starting Quinn now would be risky. But from what i saw during preseason the team looked as if they believed in him and trust him and want to block for him why not give him a chance against they teams coming up give him a half regardless of the score to let him test the waters put in Anderson or dorsey in let them feel out the defense and then put in Quinn that way the other team is exposed and then Quinn could know what to look for because he has the skills to do it Dorsey's arm is weak Anderson is well Anderson i say give it a shot can't be afraid to be great. To be great is always risky.
GO AFTER LEFTWICH! SOS!!! SHIP IS GOING DOWN!! NEED HELP!!!
GO AFTER LEFTWICH! NEED HELP! SOS!!! SHIP IS GOING DOWN FAST!!!!! NEED A NEW CAPTON!
Hey Dave Reich...two words - TIM COUCH. Charlie was set up to fail just like he was. Brady could very well be a great quarterback, but he needs to sit out until we can get an offensive line that will do their job and protect him. If we throw him in, no matter how great he is, he will get trampled on. Boo to the Browns for ruining yet another promising career. Best of luck to Charlie Frye.
The team is in total disarray fromt eh general manager all the way down to the water boys. Trading Charlie Frye may make fans feel good, but it will change little if anything. As for starting Quinn, do so only if you want to lose the next franchise quarterback. Instead let him sit out a year, learn the system, and improve the offensive line so Quinn is not so beat up by season's end that his career is over. (And BTW, Quinn still has much to prove including his ability to win big games anyway.)
Simply put: We need new management. Yes, that includes you Romeo. Not to mention the idiots that work in the stadium! What a ruckus!
when will the people in this city learn? cleveland is the arm pit of america and its sports teams stink! a city of mental midgets that are totally brain dead. cleveland sucks.............. and all these morons keep buying tickets to wittness the losing. idiots all idiots
YES the Charlie Frye trade was the right move. Dorsey should NEVER have been cut AND I think he should start, not Anderson.
In all fairness to Frye - he didn't come along fast enough, but he shouldn't have lost his starting job to Anderson due to an injury.
Good luck, Frye. And to those that think Quinn should start - sure - can we all stay Tim Couch???
Linda
cleveland sucks bottom line quit whinning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good riddance to a guy who had happy feet in the pocket,he took to long to analyze defenses and what really hurt us was he refused to just throw the ball away instead either trying to force it by throwing an interception or taking the sack.
I Have been a CLEVELAND BROWNS fan for 35 years . I am no longer. I am from AKRON,OHIO.It is ditubing to see Charlie leave and the real culprit rsponsible for the loss stays.Yes they keep the incompetent fat headed Romeo Crennel.HOW CAN HE COACH A WINNER? He cant even talk. Has no pride in his appearance.Good luck Charlie. I hope they fire Romeo soon.He is so dumb and unable to control his fumble bums that they will lose every game he coaches, He is not exciting. I hope mamagement sees his incompetent staff gets fired too. BILL COWHER HELP US PLEASE. good luck charlie comeback and beat these inept clowns.Anderson i thank god you are the starter it will help Romeo get fired quicker because you suck in the red zone. Some quarterbacks can score but Derek thats not you.As far as QUINN get out of cleveland before these idiots ruin you. Quinn you are an accurate passer but you have no grit like Charlie did. You cant throw the ball as far as Charlie either. You are too little to be a nfl player. Hell did Notre Dame ever win anything with you at the helm. There must be a reason so many teams passed on him Romeo? DUH? i AM GOING ON TO BE A SEATTLE SEAHAWK FAN AND START AN Akron, ohio fan club. IN CLOSING FIRE THE DUMB INCOMPETENT FQAT BOY ROMEO CRENNEL.I hope you have trouble sleeping with your guilt.
Nice move FINALLY!!! When I heard they cut Dorsey awhile back I flipped...Start Dorsey and let Quinn watch and start him around week 5...Romeo does need to bo bye bye and lets welcome a soon hopeful Cleveland Native Bill Cower! ! !
Frye is the scapegoat this week? Who will it be in week 2 when the Browns get smoked again??
Right move. Sunday proved that Charlie was in over his head. We got caught in a timing crunch with Brady reporting late and there was not much the Browns could do until they could make the move. Charlie's performance Sunday hastened the move. Keep in mind, Quinn and Dorsey came from big time college programs and have played against many of the people now in the NFL. You cannot say that about Charlie and Tim C.
Why not keep Charlie around for a couple more weeks to get beat up a little bit more? Although I am glad to see Ken Dorsey come back. And if one QB had to go, it might as well been Frye. At least they got something for him while his head is still attached.
First - Bill Cowher is not going to come coach in Cleveland. Get that lofty idea of out of your meager Cleveland minds. The chin will go to a classy and talented organization - not Cleveland.
Second - The Browns should start Quinn NOW. (I say this as a Steeler fan who will laugh as yet another promising career is ruined).
One of the best things about Cleveland football has always been watching the browns get their hopes up and fail repeatedly. Here's to another year of misery!!

Steeler fan says...
ROMEO AND SAVAGE both need to be run out of town if they honestly believe that any football fan is dumb enough to think Frye is the problem. He has started 20+ games and gets traded after 1 qtr at the start of another new season. Everyone knew what Frye was capable of doing at the end of last season, why would any competent management waste a pre-season and then trade him? They both are incompetent, Romeo is about as qualified for his job as i am and Savage is a smooth talker who has produced NOTHING BUT HEARTBREAK for the fans of Cleveland.
I am from Charlie's hometown Willard, OH. I must say that I was truely disappointed when he was drafted by the Browns. The only good that I could see from the situation was that we could see him play live on Sunday. I am glad that he is gone, and not for the Browns sake, but for Charlie's sake. I wish him well, as I am sure he has a much brighter future in Seattle, or in any other town for that matter.
no longer a browns fan, what a classless orginization to do Frye that way. After getting the tar knocked out of him last year with a bad team they let him go after one quarter.this coaching staff jerked around with all the QB's the whole preseason, so how could any be ready to play.
I say put the "Franchise" quarterback in and watch him get his u know what kicked, probably have a season ending injury in the first two weeks and then his career will be over. When will Cleveland get owners and coaches with some brains, it should have been romeo that was traded not frye, that guy is an idiot. If we traded all the players who sucked on sunday we'd have the water boy and the towel guy left.
You didn't give Frye a chance... The whole team looked awful. I was their. No one came to play the Steelers
Add the name of one more Quarterback to the "Wall of Shame" in the dysfunctional front Office.
Give me a break it wasn't too long ago people were yelling for Charlie to play.
Maybe they need a playbook for more than a year and things might get better.
I don't think it's Romeo's fault either. look at the Steelers they had one coache for 22 years(Knoll) and they weren't all winning seasons. personnel changes especially key personnel Head coach isn't always the answer.
I cannot believe they traded Charlie Frye. Last couple of years the fans chanted his name. This year they booed at him. Shame on the fans. I blame them just as well as the coachs. He stood tough last year, even though he did not have a line to protect him. How many times did he get sacked, concusion and hurt, but came right back out on the field. He was a TRUE Cleveland Browns Player. This year all you hear about is Brady Quinn. I am so sick of hearing his name. Now that you got rid of the good QB, throw Brady to the wolves and let's see how long he lasts. I am now a Seattle Seahawks fan. Go Charlie. Best of Luck to you!!!!
Well you guys did it again.... another BOO BOO! You should be getting rid of Phil Savage and get someone that know what a football player looks and acts like! ! !
Frye at least gave it a good shot, what do you think Quinn will do with the same line in front of him?
After he becomes chopped meat what are your plans then???
Cleveland should change the area code from 216 to 042 because that's what their record is going to be against the Steelers every year no matter who is at QB!!
When is somebody going to stop the insanity and get rid of Romeo....
He should have been fired early last year, but they fired the assistants, now the Browns are off to another dismal start, some idiot won't give Brady a chance to play, couldn't have done any worse than Frye or Anderson, and the solution is to trade Frye.
I guess as long as the stands are full, ownership could care less about improving the team. Empty the stands out, and see how fast things improve.
The best news for Charlie was when they lowered the axe on him. He now will play for a well coached and run organization. Holmgren knows football and he wanted Charlie.
The cleveland coaches and front office are in their last throes and will soon be out of a job. Good wishes to Charlie.
All I can say is I wish Charlie the best. He may not realize it yet but, he is probably better off. At least the Brown's can't ruin him anymore, like they did Tim Couch. Look out Brady your next on the Brown's front office hit list to ruin a rookie QB. I don't think the Brown's will ever be a contender like they use to be. Their front office are a bunch of IDIOTS!!!!!!!! We should trade them for something better.
I know the front office is not all that great, but come on. Who really saw anything other than a back up QB in Frye the past year? He never learned to stop focusing on one receiver, let alone the defense heading straight toward him. Frye gave his all and is a class act, but some things are inherent and cannot be learned.
Poor Charlie! I can't believe the Cleveland Browns would trade him after only playing 1-1/2 quarters of the season opener. Yes, he almost got killed, but it was not his fault...the person who should be fired is ROMEO. Why are we keeping him? Please BILL COWHER...we need you...a great person who knows the game and knows how to coach! And why are they starting Anderson? He is no better of a QB then Frye with the same offensive line and Romeo as the head coach. The offensive line seems to play better with Dorsey or Quinn...doesn't that tell the TOP MANAGEMENT something?
Please don't start Quinn this year...don't ruin yet another great QB!
I've been a loyal Cleveland Browns fan for 35 years... but this losing every week and blaming the QB's is crazy...I've come to the conclusion that the Browns will never be a good team until the owner hires a new GM and coach -- which Bill Cowher could handle both positions like he did with Pittsburgh!
Last weeks game made Cleveland look worst than high school football. Your time is running out for me to continue to support this team...I'm slowly becoming a Steelers fan!
Best of luck to you Charlie now that this awful team has let you go...Seattle will be a great team now that you are there!
have been a fan since the Sipe days, have not seen a good team since, I hate to say Model left.At least there was a chance they could win then. This team is terrible. You can not blame a quaterback who has no line and a coach who is clueless. I wish Charlie the best come back and destroy the Browns as so many others have after we stupidly let them go!!!!
Ty Detmer, Tim Couch, Jeff Garcia, ect, now Charlie Fry. All were good quarterbacks and all didn't do well here. If the qb gets the snap and the first thing he sees is a player from the other team, he's not getting enough protection. No qb will succeed as long as they have no protection.
The Browns offensive line is to blame not the QB. The Browns can't run with any running back. They are outweighed and outplayed up front where it counts. If you can't run, then you can't pass. Get some big strong blocking beef up front. Open some holes. Get the running game going. The passing game will happen. Tim Couch and all QB's from the return of the Browns to now, have had to play behind terrible offensive lines. It makes every pass play look like a defensive jailbreak to the QB. Come on, get real. When your offensive line is outweighed forty pounds per man, there's no QB, no running back, notight end, no wide receiver that can help the offense. Romeo was a lineman, he should know better.
When will the Cleveland Fans ever learn?
If you get lousy meals at a restaurant, do you keep going back?
If you buy a car and it’s a lemon, do you buy another one form the same company?
We have losing teams because we keep employing them. Professional sports are big businesses. Stop going to the games, buying all the tee shirts, sweatshirts, jerseys, caps and junk they sell. Affect the bottom line. That’s all they look at when they decide on a trade, a coach, a general manager… how does it affect the bottom line. If you still watch them on TV, go to the games and buy all their junk, then they can hire the middle to bottom of the barrel people. You want to be a fan and support your city, go to your high school games and cheer for them, at least they are playing because they love the game as much as you.
Let,s see, first game of year center punter have problems snapping the ball. 4 offesensive penalties. That's 6 of 11 players making a mistake on 1 play. Frye wasn't even in there. Frye sacked 5 time 1st qtr. Where's the line? Browns did him a favor. GOOD LUCK Charlie!!!
I say Charlie will do better in Seattle. The Browns are the worse for it. The Browns do not know what they are doing. They have not built a line. Charlie is better off with coaches who can coach. A running back who is the real deal and management who can manage. No. 33 in section 149 can bark all he wants with the two yard gains the Browns give him.
