Manny's homerun shenanigans

Manny Ramirez may be quickly burning out any of the remaining goodwill fans may still hold for him from his days with the Indians.

In Game 4 of the ALCS, Manny smacked a solo homerun in the 6th, the third in the row for the Red Sox. Despite the fact the homerun still meant the Red Sox were trailing, Manny dropped his bat, raised his arms in jubilation, and admired his work before getting around to running the bases.

Was it showboating? Was it taunting? Or was it, the phrase we've heard over and over again, "Manny being Manny?"

i can only hope we have a big enough lead on thursday, and C.C. does what should have been yesterday, and that is to plunk him hard! a message needs to be sent.

It's no different than an endzone dance, or hi fives, or a gang up at home plate, or even a fist pump by Tiger Woods. It was a monster shot in a criticle game and the 3rd homer in a row.Fans should grow up! These same complainers would be defending him if he played for cleveland.I say "Good job manny for a great hit." i also say "We still won the game."

I am a true die hard Indians fan but if Manny wants to spread his arms and fly like an eagle around the bases I could care less.
Manny is a hitter...its what he does best...he is proud of himself as he should be.

All this subject does is try to stir hatred towards Boston Red Sox.
Grow up and enjoy the game for what it is.

Manny being Manny ? That is something to expect from someone who is paid $20mil a year, and plays for a team like the Red Sox. They are way overpaid and I'll take our $60mil payroll over the Red Sox 6-figure plus payroll anyday of the week. Let's hope C.C. shows what a true professional is and Manny strikes out 3 times, then maybe Manny will think the next time he hits a home run !! Go Tribe !!!!

I'm tired of people booing great plays just because they come from the other team. Great baseball is great baseball. Having said this, I hope the Indians knock their Sox off in Game 5!

It's just Manny being Manny...a moron. Of course it's all too common these days that players are more concerned with their personal feats instead of what their team is doing.

Look, there's a reason the Red Sox try to dump Manny each off-season. And some might remember that they actually put him on waivers at the end of the 2003 season, hoping someone would claim him (and his attitude) so they could get out from under his contract.

I'm someone who can't stand the Indians and just wanted to see some good baseball, but Manny's antics have made me a Tribe fan for at least this series.

Respect the opponent, respect the game.

I forgot how much I can't stand Manny until he reminded why last night. What an idiot!! It just shows that he is more into himself than he is into the team concept. This really is a big deal because not only are you patting your self on the back but you are showing up the pitcher and the other team. This issue isn't directed at the Red Sox but just Manny. At least Ortiz and Youk are classy enough to just run the bases and not celebrate. And they are smart enough to realize that they were still losing by a lot. But then again maybe Manny is too stupid to realize what the score was. Just as pitching, hitting, and catching are a part of baseball, so is hitting a batter that showboats after a homer. I'm not saying this because I really want to see Manny get hit, it's just what happens in the game and every team does it. So watch out Manny, you might get one in your earhole tomorrow night. Go Tribe!!!!!

Professionalism is something that should come with being a PROFESSSIONAL sports figure, unfortunately there are some who forget that. Even with the few who pull "shenanigans" the game will always be great! The fans just have to remember that and don't sweat the small obnoxious things! Laugh it off and consider the source! GO TRIBE!!!!!!!!!!!

The only thing about baseball Manny knows is: (caveman voice) See ball... uh.... hit ball. He has never learned how to run the bases, is a lousy outfielder, and demonstrates poor sportsmanship. Our team is stronger without him.

Who cares, the guy does not have a brain in his head. They are losing and what ever he does not change that. He is a great ball player but a below average person.

It wouldn't do any good to plunk Manny, he still wouldn't "get it".
You have to bean the next guy in the line-up so that he can try to explain it to the moron.

Yes, he's one of the best hitters around. But the fact he has to pull that stuff shows he feels he also has to make people aware of it other than just watching him play.

we are ahead in this series 3 games to 1....Manny can stand on one leg and jump around like a little girl after he hits a home run if it makes him feel good - it makes absolutely no difference if it doesn't change the outcome of the game. real fans won't even justify getting upset by his behavior...we'll just keep on loving our Tribe :-) The magic number is "5"!!!!

Rocky...grow up Tribe fans! I am probably one of the oldest Tribe fans that is posting here so don't think I am not absolutely thrilled that we won. But fans, get a life! If Manny's gesture of thrill and happiness over his great hit bothers you, go see your shrink fast. You obviously have too many other problems you are hiding. If he had done the same thing if he had been an Indian last night, no one in here would be complaining. This is ridiculous and makes Cleveland look bad all across the internet. Get a life!

I'm surprised his pants didn't fall down when he raised his arms. God, will someone in Boston get him a uniform that fits, get him a haircut and get him some class. Oh ya! what's with the woopie cushion he wears on his head? True GQ style.

We shouldn't be too hard on him. I was at the game last night and we were yelling all sorts of "not so nice" stuff at him, so he was probably just tired of the abuse.

There is nothing wrong with celebrating a big hit such as Manny's. A fist pump or even putting his arms up was ok, but it showed no class to stand there and watch it and slowly walk before trotting around the bases, especially since it didn't put them in the lead. GO TRIBE!!!!

Rocky, I'm afraid you just don't get it. The fact that Manny's antics embarass himself doesn't matter -- he is largely an idiot and everyone knows that. The fact that he disrespects the game affects us all. Imagine if Ted Williams or Yaz were still there to lead the Sox -- it would be nice to see what real baseball heros would have done in response to Manny's antics. My guess is, they would have hit him themselves. As a lifelong baseball fan (with nothing against the Red Sox), it really bothers me the way so many prematurely rich, spoiled kids are ruining the game with the richest history on the planet.

Why all the fuss about Manny expressing himself?! It makes the game a little more interesting when these players show emotion at times. Football players do dances in the end-zone, and soccer players do their celebratory dances too. What's the big deal, seriously? Get a life people!!!

Personally, i could care less. We won the game, and we're about to win this series. That's what we'll always remember 10, 15, 20 years from now. That was only one individual "bright moment" for the Sox for this series. We've had so many of those "bright moments" in this series i couldn't list them all. So let Manny be Manny all he wants. I'll take us winning it all over his antics any day of the week (and twice on Sunday!!) GO TRIBE!!

I am sick and tired of hearing its just Manny being Manny. How can people in Boston justify this?
Just because he has caused numerous distraction to the Red Sox, complains every offseason and plays half ass people accept it because he is an excellent hitter.

What Manny being Manny is, is Red Sox fans embrasing his stupidity.

Why not everytime George Bush makes a strategic mistake we just say oh thats just George being George.

if Manny still played in Cleveland nobody would care if he did that or not. if the Tribe was in Boston and he hit a home run for the Tribe and acted like that the city of Boston would be in an up roar. The fact is the 3 home runs in a row don't mean anything because they lost. lets worry about game 5 winning that and going on to beat the Rockies.

Manny Ramirez has done alot of stupid stuff in his MLB career. The one where he ran from first to third on a flyout and then ran across the field to get back to first without touching second. But last nite was the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Not only did he do it once, he did it again on his flyout in the later innings...Manny=Brainless

Manny has that sloppy appearance in the manner he wears his uniform. What was with his left hip pocket lining hanging outside? Also, those dreadlocks are just outlandish. Cleveland should be proud they don't have to deal with his sloppy appearance. You don't see other teams with a player looking like Manny does.

Go Indians! From an Indians fan, who now lives in Tennessee.

I was at the game and saw the "Manny being Manny" thing. I front of us were three Boston fans who had made the trip from Beantown for the game. The guy looked at his wife and just shrugged his shoulders. Then he turned around (we had been talking during the game) and said "what more can you expect from a guy who was only in town six months and marries some girl he meets in a bar".

Boston loves his bat but does not have much respect for the person.

Thank God he is no longer in Cleveland!

I disagree with what Manny did last night. It shows his lack of class. Granted, I would like to see him get plunked, but I don't want the Indians to risk the rest of the postseason on his little stunt by having one of our players possibly suspended for the retaliation. Instead, I think the fans at game 5 should turn their backs to the field when he comes to bat. This would show a little class from our fans.

Unfortunately on the television broadcast last night I also observed a lack of class from our fans. Chanting RED SOCKS SUCK shows a lack of class from our fans. Let's cheer our team and show respect to the visiting team. Why should Cleveland get knocked elsewhere in the media for having low class fans. I for one intend on showing respect for the other team tomorrow night while I have the honor of being at the game. Manny just showed what he is made of, now come on Tribe fans and show what you are made of.

GO TRIBE, make us proud in Game 5!!!

Leave Manny alone....and concentrate on winning the series....GO TRIBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The next time that the Browns are down by more than 10 and score a touchdown, I do not want to see a celebration.

Or, if the Indians are down by 5 and hit a GRAND SLAM, no celebration.

Why? They are still losing the game.

It is the mentality of many Cleveland fans that makes other Cleveland residents sick.

Don't know about you Daniel R, but in mine and I think many others, Manny and George are a lot alike. They do what they want with no concern of how it affects others.
And this is why teams trade/release players and we hold elections.

The point is who cares how Manny acts? This is something the Sox owners have to deal with. Its their decision whether he stays or goes.

I guess my point is why allow
anyone's attitude to spoil the experience we here in Cleveland are celebrating.

Who cares! Manny doesn't have fans in Cleveland? Are you serious? I'm sure he will be sleepless for the rest of the year. We are fans of a game, that's all it is. We pay money to see them play and then we complain if they do something we don't like. What a joke. If you don't like it don't go to the game. I just worry about the Tribe going all the way. Why get upset over what Manny does. Non-athletes kill me.

It is not just the Indians fans who think that Manny's post solo shot showboating was a classless act. Dan O'Shaunnassy, the respected Boston scribe had this to say about Manny in Tuesday's Boston Globe:...Manny's showboating showed that "he is just as classless as he is clueless." So for those of you who think Tribe fans are making more of this than need be I can only conclude that you are as clueless as Manny!

I could see Manny showboating had he tied the game or gone ahead. But to do it on a solo homerun to close the gap from 5 runs to 4 was idiotic. Should we expect anything else from Manny? Another thing that frosts my nuts is how long it takes him to trot around the bases. I'm not saying he has to sprint, but my 3 year old could make it aorund before him. GO TRIBE!!

I saw the whole "showoff" thing too...big deal. It was a little classless, but I don't pay him to play, so it doesn't matter to me. What I thought was classless was the booing that came from fans during Boston's back-to-back-to-back homeruns as the players trotted around the bases. That was very tasteless on the part of Indians fans. Show some respect for a good hit.
