Rate the Roads

Ah, winter. Wednesday morning, everyone had a little taste of winter weather and with it the white-knuckle driving that snow covered, slippery roads can bring.

How was your morning commute? We want you to "rate the roads." Let us know how your drive went, including which roads/cities did the best/worst jobs in clearing the streets and highways.

Leave your name and hometown if you want credit, since some comments may be used on-air.

The past couple of years while traveling to work to Cleveland from Munroe Falls in Summit Co. I have found that Route 8 between Stow and Boston Hts is nasty along with 271 and 480. The turn pike is well taken care of, but soon as you get on 77 North it turns nasty again. It seems that when the snow stops flying to salt trucks come out. It is rarely that I see a plow or salt truck out when it snowing. I do see plows out on the side of the freeway but the driver is most likely sleeping til the storms over. SHAME< SHAME

Hi,
N. Ridgeville did a great job. (Center Ridge Road, Lorain Road, Jaycox and Root Road. I left my house early assuming I would have trouble.

Since they did such a nice job I was able to spend some extra time with my daughter at her daycare instead of just rushing be on time to work :)

its not the roads so much but the drivers....nightmarish ride in today the roads were just wet on 76 in akron and you would have thought we had 10 inches of snow...

77 South was horrible. There was not a plow or salt truck in sight.

The roads and highways in the Akron area were horrible this morning. Most highways and main roads were backed up. Also, Wayne County's roads were even worse. They did not even attempt to clear them. Chippewa had school and I think because of the road conditions they should have been closed.

I live in Mantor and work in Cleveland and my travel to work this morning was terrible. Route 2 from Mentor to Cleveland was snow covered and not treated with road salt. Where were the trucks at?

Once again the village of Mogadore has been able to keep their roads clear, however when I had to drive into Akron this morning I was wondering what happened to the street crew workers. It really looked like they had not showed up for work yet at 7:15 this morning. Perhaps Don should give his workers a wake up call around 4. We might see some improvement.

Akron roads were pretty bad during the morning rush hour. There is no excuse for it, since the forecasts made it pretty clear that snow was coming.

Route 8 is an absolute nightmare. This morning there was no snow on the road, but they were wet. You have some people driving 30 because they were wet and some people driving 80 like they always do. Route 8 is a speed zone and people absolutely fly on there.

Did Parma forget they have plows??? The side streets off Day Drive are never plowed. I could have sworn I paid my taxes

The roads had nothing more then maybe an inch on them from Wickliffe to Valley View. 271 to 480 was not litered with snow, just bad drivers with low confidence in their ability to drive. It was slow and made me very frustrated. Just because their is snow on the ground doesn't mean that the passing lane becomes the "Go 40mph and ride your brakes lane."

O well. That's Cleveland and that's what the shoulder is for.

C'mon people! This is Northeast Ohio - its not like you just moved here - its the same crap every year - just DRIVE!!! I cant stand these people that freak out because of some snow. Take caution, drive safely, and stop acting like its the first time youve seen the white stuff - there is alot more to come!!!

I live in Geauga Co and the roads are always well taken care of. This little snow event was nothing and the roads in Geauga were excellent.

Well the drive from Parma to Solon for work would not have been bad if it were not for the diabled car in the right center lane on 480 East by State road. A friend from work advised me he drove by the same care 45 min. before. It was covered in snow and jammed the freeway up for miles. Come on, we can not get a wrecker out.

I live on the west side. Monday and Tuesday the salt trucks were sitting on the side of the road on I90 between Route 83 and the Crocker Bassett exits. This morning they were nowhere to be seen. Today the road was snow covered and you couldn't tell if it was just wet or ice underneath.

I leave for work quite early at 6:30 a.m. I lived in the snow belt and Highland Heights and take 271 South to 480 West and then 10 into Grafton. Both 271 and 480 I don't think I ever saw a snowplow. They were terrible. I saw only to snow removal vehicles, one on 480 East bound around the airport and then one at the intersection 82 & 83. The drive was terrible some of the worst I have experienced and I have grown up in northeast Ohio always on the east side of Cleveland. I cannot believe how bad it was with all the broadcasting of the incoming weather. Coming home this evening the roads were extremely good. Laura

Due to the fact that I was selected for Jury Duty downtown, I am glad that I took the RTA instead of driving amongst idiots the first true snow day of the year!

The problem is tailgating . . . following too close and applying brakes every five seconds puttin everyone else on alert & on edge as though following at 6 feet somehow speeds the commute. Just flow with it . . . flow with it . . . and stay off your damn brakes!!!

mentor is terrible and always has been terrible, lived here for 10 yrs now, side streets might get plowed once a wk there the worst, even main roads weren't the greatest,no surprises there.

I drive from Akron on Route 8 to Macedonia/Boston Heights. I must admit that the Akron roads weren't the best, but they've been much worse. Once I got out of Akron all the roads were fine.

I don't worry about myself driving, I worry about all the people who CAN'T drive and act like they've never seen snow before. If people were freaking out about a little bit of snow, then I hate to see how everyone is when we get "REAL" snow ! You live in OHIO !!!

For all the Parma people..
Unless you live on the Mayor's Street, Don't expect the side streets to be done until the main roads are clear. You might hear a truck come down your street at 4:00am. But the Mayor's Street get's done every Half Hour while the snow is falling. If it's not falling it gets done every 2 hours. Lat year we waited 4 days before our street got done.
