To Save or to Spend
Lawmakers are still working on the exact details, but it appears that taxpayers will be receiving a tax rebate check in the months to come to stimulate the economy.
Do you plan to spend the tax rebate money? Or do you plan to save it instead?

My husband and I plan on saving it. Can we use the money? Sure. What upsets me is that this is an advance on next year's return. Why can't they just give us the money with no strings attached? We need the money now and again next year!

What money? We aren't getting one... somehow we have become the uppper-middle class this year.
I would love to use some off it to take a vacation. My Hubby & i have NEVER been away together in the 13 yrs we've been together.
But , we'll end up paying down bills (credit cards & medical)

I'm not spending it. It's going into a CD. I would love to spend it, but not at the expense of next years refund. We use our tax refunds as ways of paying for our home improvement projects.
I emailed Senators Brown and Voinovich about how this prebate would effect next years tax return. The example I used was since my kids are worth $300 each on this prebate, would my child tax credit be lowered from $1000 to $700. I heard back from Senator Brown and my response was political rhetoric. I have not heard back from Senator Voinovich.
i am a sigle mom who could always use a little extra. i plan on paying rent for 2 months ahead of time and save money that would come from my paychecks for christmas.

I will use it to pay bills, if anything is left, I'll get my hair done. Plus, I doubt there will be anything left.
My question is - Don't we have to pay some of that money back in our 2008 tax return? There has been no mention of that. We had to claim it the last time we got a "rebate". I wouldn't spend all of it if I were you!
I plan to stimulate the economy by giving my money to my creditors. The large corporations just can't wait for us to get our money so we can: a) give it to the big banks or b) buy more crap.
The whole idea of stimulating the economy through consumption is wrong. We need to create good paying jobs, rebuild our infrastructure and strengthen our middle class. This one time rebate is like putting a band-aid on someone who's just lost an arm. It ain't gonna help.

I will use it to pay the clubhouse dues this summer at the marina, otherwise I would use it to pay for about two weeks of gas on the 38' ChrisCraft.
I am going to put new brakes on my car with the money. It will probably only cover the front brake pads. I'm lucky to get that from our government.
I am going to do the same thing I did with mine in 2001, take it out of Ohio and go to the casinos. Lately, prefer the Indian reservation at Seneca Allegany-just 3 hours away by car, so if I lose I give some back to the people the government should have taken care of years ago-The Indians and I don't mean Cleveland Indians. If I win, oh well, got more money to goof off with. But keep in mind-I don't have credit card debt and my cars are paid off-so I earned it. By the way, for the lady who never leaves Willowick, take the hubby and go have some fun. If you been married 13 years and never go on a vacation-get out of town on the government's dime.
Maybe you'll see me in New York, Ohio plates along with the rest of us at the dice table saying
O H I O, ha ha, later
DO you realize this is more of an "advance" than a rebate?
I'm going to pay taxes with my refund...
i will use the money to pay off some of my credit card debt. its not a lot but i am happy to get soemthing back. when it comes to tax breaks and good tax refund check, it doesnt pay being single, childless, and middle class.
We are not sure what we will do with the money but first of all I will believe it when I have check in hand but if we do get it I will either put in under the mattress or buy something American made or possibly use it towards a down payment on an American made car but I refuse to buy anything not made in America
I'd like to use it towards my new house, but thanks to all the greedy bankers and irresponsible buyers (ARM loan recepients) who screwed it up, I'm having trouble getting a mortgage. I've never been late on a payment and make good money but it's still almost impossible! I guess I'll stay in my little house and go on a big vacation this summer.
At least the goverment is not wasting it on IRAQ, but it just shows that everyone has obviously overpaid on taxes to the goverment.

I'll use it to rent a moving van to leave my forclosed house. Last person in Cuyahoga county, please turn off the lights.
As far as I know I won`t be receiving it, I am a senior which I don`t pay taxes or rather don`t file taxes I DO PAY TAXES. As far as they know I don`t exist anymore so seniors won`t recieve under the poverty line. If so I will be surprized!
If I had a refund I would buy food or pay a bill, sure would help....
IF I get anything - and that's not guaranteed - I'll use it to set up a rainy-day fund in case the economy tanks.
I've been looking for a new job after restructuring in August, and am finding there is very little out there, and what is out there pays horribly less than what I was making before. Obviously, the government is aware that the economy is about to tank far worse than it already is...so, I'm going to put it in the bank to help support myself as I work a mediocre job that isn't enough to support my kids or pay my mortgage. The idea of spending it frivolously is just ignorant.
First, I will believe it when I have one in hand...and, I believe the Senate will do all they can to "tank" this proposal because it's not their idea...so, if and when I receive a check, I will use the funds to help my son furnish his first apartment.
I will be 99 years old on April 1st. When I get that check I will buy my first pair of dentures. I hope I make it to my birthday, 'cause at my age you never know.
I'm 45 years old, and lost my good paying job a year or so ago. I have not been able to find anything else that even comes near what I was making before. I am moving back home with my parents, and going to live in their attic space.
