Browns’ busy off-season

The Cleveland Browns continue to be one the busiest teams in the NFL this off-season. Owner Randy Lerner is on the verge of giving General Manager Phil Savage a contract extension following a 10-6 season.

Head Coach Romeo Crennel, offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker have already signed extensions.

They also re-signed quarterback Derek Anderson and running back Jamal Lewis.

Then Savage went out and signed wide receiver Donte Stallsworth from New England, traded for defensive linemen Corey Williams and Shaun Rodgers, signed offensive lineman Rex Hadnot from Miami and re-signed offensive lineman Lennie Friedman.

What do you think of the Browns’ moves thus far? Will they be better than last year or was the 10-6 season a fluke? Were the extension’s warranted after just one winning season?

Was re-signing Anderson the right move? Did the Browns go out and get the players they needed? Did they miss out on anyone? Did Savage make a good decision on trading away draft picks and Leigh Bodden to get Williams and Rodgers? Will Brady Quinn play this season?

We want to hear from you. Give us your thoughts on how the Browns look going into the April draft and then the 2008 season.

I think Randy Savage made 1 mistake this offseason. That would be the trade for Shaun Rogers. I have been living in the Detroit area for the past 10 years, and I have had a chance to watch Rogers play, since the Lions drafted him. The man takes not only plays off, sometimes he takes entire games off. Detroit listed him at 350 pounds in the 2007 season, but towards the end of the season he had to be at least 400 pounds. He has knee problems, has been suspended for banned substances, and generally hasn't lived up to "potential" since being drafted.
That said, how can the browns go and make him the highest paid Defensive Lineman in the NFL? 20 million up front? Are you kidding me? That and giving up Leigh Bodden, AND a 3rd round draft pick?
Other than that, Savage has done a pretty good job with the re-signings and free agent signings.

Thank-you

I think The Browns are on the upswing, generally speaking. Brady Quinn should be allowed to play a lot more this season. He deserved it, and so do his fans. Last season has proven that this team really has a good feel for each other, and their improvement bodes well for the organization.

Im a die hard Dawg fan and feel the moves that have been made thus far can only improve us all the way around.Look for the Browns to be the team to beat in the AFC altogether.Im over here in the middle of Pennsylvania and the stooler fans i speak to, say be on the look out.Just puzzled by the DA signing. I think Phil still has a little more in store for us come draft day. GO DAWGS!! From the Ridgwaydawg

With the exception of 1 move, I generally like Savage's offseason moves. That one move is getting Shaun Rogers. I have been living in the Detroit area for about 10 years now, and have had opportunity to watch Rogers play. What I see is a player who will take plays off during a game, if he even decides to play as a professional during a game. He has issues with his weight, (Lions had him as 350, I would venture to say by years end he was up to at least 400), his knees are a concern, and he has been suspended for taking a banned drug. After all this, the Browns make him the HIGHEST PAID defensive lineman in the NFL? What are they thinking? On top of all this, Cleveland gives up Leigh Bodden, AND a 3rd round pick? Based on pontential? Sorry, but I just don't get it.

I think Mr. Savage is some good moves to help the team, I would like to see a little more in the secondary, we need help there, and I would like to see a bolt through the line running back, one that doesn’t dance at the line but shoots through the defensive line , that would also help our passing game if the defense has to worry about a Jamal a power back, and a back that can shoots through the line. thanks
