Fishing Charter Changes

When the charter fishing season opens on Lake Erie in April, fishing enthusiasts will need more than just their reel and tackle for a day on the waters.

They will also need to bring a passport or two forms of identification if they plan to fish across the international border in Canadian waters. They will also have to report to Customs on their return.

It's all part of a Homeland Security Department decision to enforce the new border security rules.

What do you think about the decision?

Unfortunately, these are crazy times we live in and Lake Erie happens to be a very vulnerable international border. This is no surprise as it will soon be necessary to have a passport to enter Canada by land, sea, or air! A small inconvenience it is, but necessary to continue to protect our borders!

Excellent idea! I see no reason not to do this for ALL of our borders leaving no stone unturned, but they should be enforced for everyone with no exceptions.

Give me a break! One more example of "Homeland Security" managing to keep us safe from, uh... bomb-toting walleye? Thank you, George Bush. Yet another reason you suck!

Sincerely,

Martin

Wow I am really feeling sorry to call myself a citizen of Ohio when I am surrounded by all of these scared little children. First thing, u cannot blame George Bush for all of this due to the fact that we, as citizens vote our leaders into office. I agree that this is a waste of our money and complete overkill. Having to go sign-in when you get back to shore is a sad sign of the times that we live in. I think that our ship is sinking fast and we will have no way of turning around in the next couple of years. Freedom is being handed over by our very own signatures. Before you know it we will have to sign in/out of our homes via Video Phone.

This is a counter productive rule. No one is going to bring their passport, no one is going to put up with standing in front of a camera after coming back from fishing, and the charter guys are just going to turn around before they rich the Canadian waters.

Why all the whining? This is a pretty easy one: If you travel to Canada, you need a passport. It doesn't matter if you're on land or water.

If you don't like the rule, don't leave the country. As hard as this may be for some people to grasp, when you move over an international border (even on water), you're now in another country.

Grab a map and discover that due north of Ohio, there's another country...

Come on!!! I have lived right near the coast of Lake Erie my entire life, and while I usually do not fish on a charter boat, I would hate that I couldn't if I wanted to. I was born and raised right on Lake Erie, to need a passport to fish on it, is quite honestly, a bit much.

What is crazy is people complain they might have to get a passport every ten years to live in a safer country to secure our waters but yet not a word of complaint about having to obtain a fishing license and or register their boats. The pettiness and of people is just unbelievable.

Yeah, sure, I'll stop by to pose for a picture. Just as soon as they seal our southern border and force all the illegals to do the same.

Until then they can pound sand.
