New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has announced he will step down effective March 17. The resignation comes just days after Spitzer was embroiled in a scandal amid allegations he was involved in a prostitution ring.
Spitzer is married and the father of 3 daughters.
It's not the first scandal involving a high profile politican or celebrity.

I CAN'T SEE WHAT ALL THE HUFF AND PUFF IS ABOUT. THE PRESIDENT GOT CAUGHT AND HE WAS NOT CHAGRINED INTO RESIGNING. WHY SHOULD SOMEBODY IN A SLIGHTLY LOWER POSITION BE SUBJECTED TO EVEN GREATER RIDICULE THAN THE PRESIDENT. HIS SIN IS FOR HIM AND HIS FAMILY AND GOD TO WORK OUT IN PRIVATE. AFTER ALL, LOOK HOW BILL CLINTON IS NOW IDOLIZED AND NO ONE REMEMBERS HIS GROSS MISCONDUCT WITH MISS LAMONICA.
What goes around comes around. Quite frankly I couldn't care less about who is doing who. But the aggressive way he went after others that did the same things he has done makes him a dangerous man who believes himself above the law.
I'm just sorry his wife did't pick up the nearest chair and clobber him during the press conference, instead of standing meekly by his side.
It's happening everyday everywhere....why because he's a high profile person should he have to step down. It's betwen him and his family. The public needs to saty out of it.
I am most curious on how the wives of these politicans stand behind them while they confess their sins to the media at the podium. No wonder one of them did it and got caught again. I understand "working through things" in a marriage but these women aren't setting a good example either!

I can’t believe some of the comments I’m reading. Governor Spitzer is a former attorney general, he if any body knows that what he was doing was against the law, so yes he should resign and be prosecuted if allowed by law. Now as for his wife, I’m sick of always hearing that women should not put up with a husbands infidelity, but when we hear of some famous male person being accused of infidelity, the wife always stays and supports their husband. I just don't understand it. If the women that are married to men that are in the public eye that cheat on their wives, and the wives stay and support them, then why should any other women in America divorce their husband for infidelity?
Its sad they will go as far as impeachment for someone that gets laid but for someone who starts a war falsely and kills thousands of people they sit by and do nothing. This country has its head up its rearend.

No man in his position should be that dumb. But as history shows, unfortunetly many of them are. I feel awful for his wife and her family. What complete disregard and disrespect towards his family. I admire her strength, and i hope she gets herself a good divorce lawyer. Leave him for the hookers, thats all men like that deserve anyway.
It’s easy to look at a situation like this and say what you would do if it happened to you. My wife of 16 years suffered a nervous breakdown a few years ago and the result was that she ran off to another part of the country with a guy she worked with. Before that happened I was certain of how I would deal with any infidelity should it occur. Trust me, no one truly knows how he or she would react to something like this until it actually happens. The shock and sense of loss take that macho wind right out of your sails.
It's very difficult to believe that the FBI has nothing more important to occupy its resources than to have agents intercepting phone calls and text messages as well as following someone suspected of meeting a prostitute in a DC hotel even given the fact that the person holds a high position in a state government.
This should be an issue between the Governor and his family not a criminal investigation involving the Federal Government.
The whole thing appears to fail the "smell test".
If the he did not use public funds he should be left alone, he has done a great job fighting crime and this incident is personal between him and his wife
His wife stood by him for the children. It's a mother's natural instinct to protect the children first and then address the situation. She is obviously a very strong woman.
We live in a SICK country! Thousands die in a war based on lies (the FBI couldn't get WMD info right), yet we make a huge deal out of a man getting laid. His marital problems and infidelity are HIS personal problem, not ours. His job performance was excellent... and this is what counts. Prostitution should be legalized/regulated because it has a place in society. Escorts are at an all time popularity high these days, which is witness to how entrenched and needed the service is. There are MANY good reasons men may want to see one due to their SEXUAL NEEDS, and they are personal. Why ruin his and his family's life this way???!!!
The only problem here is that he used "taxpayers" money for a call girl. Prostitution should be legalized. The government shouldn't be allowed to regulate what two consenting adults want to do regardless if money is involved. The government doesn't have a problem sending young men off to "war" to die, but they want to dictate what they do behind closed doors.
