Snow Storm Sound-Off
Which community fared the best during the big storm?
It's a storm that no one will forget anytime soon. Last weekend's storm dumped 12-24" inches across northern Ohio. The storm dealt a knock-out punch that pretty much shut down everyone.
So we want to know who did the best when it came to keeping pace with the storm and then digging out once it was finally, mercifully over?

Broadview Hts was a mess!!! And still is. Sam Dropped the ball on this storm.
The City of Kent road crews did an excellent job of keeping the roads clear through this difficult weekend.
Thank You!
Painesville Township.. great job.
Willoughby always does a nice job of clearing both the primary and secondary roads, and this weekend was no exception.
No doubt about it that the Village of Chagrin Falls roads were the best. The village plow drivers are the best at clearing the snow and tucking the snowpiles way off the road. A-plus job. They were even clearing downtown sidewalks by 11:30 a.m. Sunday because the roads were in such good shape.
Brunswick, which I usually give an A++ to for how well and quickly then clear the streets, I would have to give a less than satisfactory grade to. Until I hear their reasoning. Our side street was cleared Sat. at 1am, and then not again until Sat. at 8pm. We had over a foot of snow in the street, and there were several accidents/cars stuck. The police told me they were running full crews around the clock, but if there was an emergency that a fire truck or ambulance had to go to, then the snow plows were diverted to that area immediately. On Sat. afternoon, they had such emergency calls non-stop. I now atleast have an understanding of the unusual delays. Keep up the good work Brunswick
The funny thing is people will bash the road crews for not doing enough during the storm. The fact of the matter is that it was coming down so fast that they really could not keep up with it. Knowing two people who work for a very large city and plow, they were on 12 hour shifts starting Friday and continuing through Monday. When a storm of this magnitude hits us, we should be thankful that there are people actually willing to go out and attempt to plow. Not like it mattered, where were you going to go? Everything was closed!
I must say Mentor, they take care of us nicely out here. Thanks City of Mentor!
By far the men and women of North Canton do the best! The roads are always clear and they work around the clock to make the residents safe! The residents of North Canton deeply appreciate all their hard work!
OMG, Cleveland is flippin' horrible!! The plow went down for the first time a little after 10 this morning. He came back and did the same side about 1/2 hour later. He should have done the parking side of the street before the ban was lifted and where there are now cars. That side was plowed once around lunchtime. My husband saw the road grader driving down a side street talking on the phone and with the blade UP. Needless to say, we are not happy! Thank goodness the Catholic school was closed, because our streets in N. Collinwood are near impassable. They're bad enough that a mail truck got stuck and caught fire trying to get out!
Kirtland is and always has been the BEST at clearing the roads !
A 35 year resident
still haven't seen a plow truck on my street, called snowbird 10 times with the same answer, also called my concil person and still no answer
North Ridgeville was TERRIFIC!!!
I had to work on Saturday, and Willoughby's streets were the best I came across. Thanks for keeping your residents safe! :)
Lyndhurst did a great job
Avon Lake was lacking on the sidestreets!
Cleveland was awful. By the time we were able to get out of our driveway, they came along and finally plowed, blocking us in again. The poor kids walking to school this morning was so dangerous!!!!
I was extremely pleased with Twinsburg City as well as Turfscape for keeping our roads and driveways plowed! We ventured out on Sunday afternoon and the roads were spotless. Great Job!
As usual, Lyndhurst did a good job, even keeping up with the residential streets. I just wish the snowplows didn't go so fast down the street.
First COMMENT!!!
Cuyahoga Falls is the best for keeping the streets clean this was a bad one and they were great. Kudoo's to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio street department
Been in Wickliffe 10 Years and they are GREAT!!!!!!!!! We had our entire neighborhood's streets plowed 3 times between 9AM and 8pm on Saturday. As usual, they were ON THE BALL!!! Major to minor to tiny little side streets, Wickliffe is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think North Olmsted did a not so hot job....The main roads were fine by Sunday but the side streets were still in horrible condition...Even this morning a car was left stranded on the entrance ramp to I480 E at Great Northern Mall - Shouldn't the city have towed it by now! It is a hazard on the entance..
Streetsboro did a great job with the roads - a few mail boxes took a hit but that's to be expected. The service department - police and fire departments were all on top of it. Great Job!
I just want to say that Mentor and Painesville did a really great job of keeping up with the roads and keeping them passable. Living in the snowbelt, you'd think the roads would be awful with all of the snow we get, but they do a wonderful job keeping them clean! Good job & thanks!
Madison Township! By far, did a fantastic job, our streets were clean by Sunday morning!!
It sure wasn't Painesville.
North Ridgeville rocked. The streets were clean and driveable all weekend long. Keep Ranger pride alive!
Brookly did a FABULOUS job clearing the streets and sidewalk.
Hats off to the City workers and Mayor.
Lakemore's streets were absolutely clear by noon on Sunday. They didn't do much during the storm, but as soon as it ended Saturday evening, they hit them hard and when the sun rose on Sunday morning the roads were melting right away!!
The Richfield serice deaprtment did a great job of keeping the roads passable during the storm. after the storm the mains got better very quickly and the side streets took longer but then were passable. You just have to remeber that we had 24 inches of snow and there is only so much they can do.
The city of Hudson was out of salt before the storm. The streets are all ice and my daughter's bus got stuck in the snow this morning. All other community's roads were salted and you could see pavement. Must be nice. The city and school system was not on the ball again!!!!
Cuyahoga Falls really did a great job at keeping the roads cleared. Sunday, we were able to get out and had no problems getting around. Even the side streets were good. Thanks to all the street workers for their hard work.
There are many levels of problems. I understand it is an overwhelming task to remove the snow in Parma. But the North end of the City is last, my dead end street get less attention. How about every other snow storm you start at different parts of the city. Thats all I ask. But on top of all that why is it so hard for others to obey the parking bans? why do some individuals on W54th in Parma think its okay to blow snow in to the street?
WESTLAKE DID AN A+ JOB OF KEEPING THE STREETS CLEAN!HATS OFF TO ALL THE CITY WORKERS!!! JOB WELL DONE.
Eastlake did a great job despite blowing snow. Side streets were difficult but main streets were passable throughout the storm.
Eastlake did not do to bad, they seemed to keep up with it and they came down my street twice.
The City of Independence did an outstanding job of clearing the main and sidestreets. It's a pleasure to live in a city that stirves to attain excellence in all service areas.
This is my first winter living in Mentor and they did a great job and ditto to my condo association. Previously, I lived in Willoughby, and they also did a fabulous job. They did the snow belt proud.
Michele
Lake County did an awesome job, specifically Madison, Painesville Twp, and Mentor. The roads were perfectly clear Sunday Morn!!! I realized how lucky we are when I visited Parma later that day. Keep up the good work Lake County!
Cleveland was horrible. We had to save 3 stuck cars in N. Collinwood. When taking my friend home at the end of the storm, we ended up plowing grovewood BY HAND, 3' high 10' to the curb by 20', just to get by a stuck RTA. In fact there were two stuck RTAs, 1000' from each other since 3pm. also stuck on that road where some nurses headed for the hospital, which we helped as well. Sure it was a storm but, to not even touch a main RTA bus route was negligent. I only saw 1 Cleveland plow, blade up passing us as we helped a stuck car. Next morning, main side streets were still not plowed. The ones that were, were done just enough for one lane causing stuck cars when it came time to pass. This is just more of the same from the city that just sits there and expects the snow to melt as it has done this entire year.
Brooklyn did a FABULOUS job clear the streets and sidewalk.
Hats of to all the city works and the Mayor:)
North Royalton, did a horrible job.
Did they not see the snow falling.
The main roads were horrible and the side streets were a joke. Our side streets were not even touched till Sunday afternoon. Lets get on the ball MR. New Mayor lets get the streets cleaned in a timely fashion. The other mayor never had
a problem with the city.
Parma as normal was absolutly terrible. You never see a snow plow when the snow falls. They wait until the last possible minute to take care of things
North Canton did a phenomenal job as usual.
Cleveland Heights is punishing the city for not passing the levy. We finally got the drive cleaned and then they finally - on SUNDAY got to the side streets - and now have made it so that we can't get out of the drives - and when you ask if you can park on the street for the evening so your plow person can complete the drive, they say no, you will get a ticket no matter what - so that the city can of course make some money off of you.
I know we received a lot of snow, but it's been absolutely insane. Saturday morning a private plow guy got stuck in our neighborhood and had to be dug out by two other plow guys. All night long, because the city of Cleveland never came through our neighborhood all week long, folks kept getting stuck in front of our house. Finally the plow guy got to our house 330am Monday morning and got stuck in our backyard! A storm to remember!
Twinsburg was pretty good considering most of the 15+ inches of snow fell Saturday. I was so suprised to see pavement Sunday at 8 am! Good work!!
I travelled down 90 (SOM Center) from Mayfield to Twinsburg Saturday late morning. It was MUCH better than the highways.
Parma did a horrible job! But that isn't anything new. Some roads are still covered with snow.
Brunswick and Brunswick Hills did a terrible job. There is nothing like paying for a private plow company within your homeowners association and the roads are still not completely clear
I'm pretty impressed with the Madison Road crews. Even after we were hit hard by the ice storm our roads were cleared quickly. The 2ft of snow that fell afterwards was taken care of immediatly. I just wished they plowed MY street. (The county takes care of that but they do a terrible job of keeping the side streets clear because there are too many main streets they have to do. They plow but they're skimpy on salt so it doesn't help if you're in a high drift area like we are)
Avon Lake was absolutely terrible! I even saw a 4-wheel drive police cruiser stuck in the ditch on Krebs! My street apparently didn't matter until 5 pm on Sunday! I had to be pushed to the top of my street by neighbors. My husband and neighbors ended up snow blowing a path for us to get in and out on Sunday! I saw better cleared streets in small townships. Where did my tax dollars go?????
Cuyahoga Falls always does an excellent job on the roads - wherever I am, I know that when I get to the Cuyahoga Falls city limits sign, I will be on clear roads - hats off to them!
BROOK PARK HAS THE BEST ROAD CREWS IN THIS AREA
City of Cleveland cleared my sidestreet by Sunday afternoon all the way to pavement good job street dept
For those of you who said Mentor did a good job of clearing the snow did you not drive down Mentor Ave Saturday or even Sunday morning for that matter?? Mentor Ave was a MESS!!!! I knew when I hit the Mentor/Willoughby line on Mentor Ave because Willoughby did a fantastic job of clearing the road. I was very disappointed in the job Mentor did!
The city of Cleveland has done an absolutely horrible job. I understand crews had a hard time keeping up with the snow on Saturday, but it is now Monday evening. There is no reason for the streets to look like no one even attempted to plow. I don't believe I have seen a city plow truck come down my street. I am surprised more accidents haven't occured because there is only one lane on the side streets. This is absolutely ridiculous!!!
Madison Township took a one two punch from Tuesday thru Sunday morning. I have to say that considering the circumstances the crews did nice work throughout.
Hudson cleared the main road fine, but some of the side streets, like Glenn Echo and Victoria have been almost completely ignored. I guess we don't have enough important people living on these roads.
Brunswick did a great job! I have been unhappy with them in the past, but guys... YOU DID A GREAT JOB... THANK YOU!!!
14th Street near Playhouse Square downtown looks like a Third World Country! Shame on Mayor Jackson! This is a major street to and from I-90, I-77 and I-71, but you would never know it!
Brooklyn plow drivers are the best!!! They worked their butts off and did a fabulous job!! Give em a raise.
I am from New Philadelphia. The main roads are ok but they don't plow St. Clair Ave. It is still a mess! Cars still get stuck on the road. They need to plow it again
Considering how atypical and out of the ordinary this heavy snowfall was, I think most municipalities did a very good job. It was hard to keep up with the blowing, drifting snow. My tall barbecue and patio table was COMPLETELY covered with snow drifts, and I had 2 foot drifts overhanging my roof! I've never seen anything like this in my 46 years living in 4 different states overall!
I was disappointed in the job that Parma did. My part of the street did not see a snow plow until today (Monday). If not for us and the neighbors, we would not have been able to get out today.
Cleveland (west side) was great - side streets were cleared by Sunday morning! Great Job!
BTW -- please go out and shovel for the kids -- it's bad enough they have to walk to the terrible schools - but to make them walk in those snow piles -- horrible!!!!
The Brooklyn road crews are the best! They worked round the clock and the efforts really showed. Keep up the great work guys !!!
Cleveland is a complete wreck! I reside on the southeast side of Cleveland and have seen not one snow plow. Cars can't even come down the side streets. I feel that it's a shame how the city is handling this situation. Frank Jackson and our Local councilman need to get it together.
What about the WORST? East 120th St. off Mayfield Rd in Little Italy is HORRENDOUS!!One small city truck with a plow came down & got stuck! He had to shovel his way out, but he didn't plow or salt!! Haven't seen one since & I called councilwoman twice, Tubbs office & Mayor's office to no avail.
Morgan Township did a shoddy job of any snow removal at all... They always do... the money for the road department seems to disappear into the crooked trustee's pockets every year
Ashtabula did a fine job,it might have taken them a little longer to get to the side streets but they have been drivable. You should take a look at the snow mound in front of the Ashtabula Plaza on Lake Ave. It's almost as tall as the buildings!
Solon did a fantastic job of clearing the streets of our 21.6 inches of snow. Good job.
the city said they were doing the best that they can to clear Clevends streets but they don't have enough Equipment or Manpower.
i say take they unneeded medical mart money and hire private help.
University Heights was awful!!! I'm hoping that the tax revenue from the gas station that UH council is agreeing to put in (and not listening to its residents) will pay for an extra snow plow.
GOOD OLD PARMA , WHAT A JOKE !!!! THE CITY AND SCHOOL DISTRICT DROPPED THE BALL AS ALWAYS ... KIDS OUT OF SCHOOL AGAIN RUNNING WILD IN THE STREETS ....
Highland Heights. The streets were clear at times when it was safe to plow. The plowers did their job instead of sitting and talking to each other in the middle of the street as I saw in Willoughby Hills.
Tampa, FL excellent job on the roadways no snow at all. They were even so kind enough to get all the snow off the grass and palm trees and heat the place up into the 80's on sunday. God I love it down here.
Well, this snowstorm was not the only first this weekend. Mayfield was actually very good at doing something for once!! SURPRISING!! Mayfield kudos to you!!!!!
Westlake's Service Department did a very nice job. Our compliments to those men and women who spent long hours on the roads keeping them clear for the rest of us. We appreciate it and hope you are getting some much deserved rest.
Thank you!
I HAVE TO SAY THAT MAYFIELD HTS DID A GREAT JOB CONSIDERING WHAT THEY WERE FACING. WE HAD TO GO TO A FUNERAL ON SATURDAY, DESPITE THE WEATHER., AT 11:00 AM ON SATURDAY WE WERE ABLE TO NAVIGATE OUR SIDE STREET. THE CREWS WERE GREAT KEEPING THEM CLEARED FOR THOSE OF US WHO NEEDED TO BE OUT IN THE MESS. ALSO, KUDOS TO MY PLOW GUY WHO DID HIS BEST TO GET ME DOWN MY DRIVEWAY DESPITE BEING TIRED AS HECK FROM BEING UP ALL NIGHT TRYING TO PLEASE HIS CUSTOMERS. THANKS STEVE!!
The city of Hudson should be embarrassed! Today is Monday and the main road still have patches of snow and ice. The side streets are still snow and slush covered.
They did a good job in outer Cleveland if you live on a main road. My little dead end street has yet to be plowed (Terminal Ave off W. 143rd)! Hello? Is anyone out there?? Let me see my taxes at work please.
Avon Lake was lousy. The side streets were not even given a once over until Sunday morning. Apparently the city "powers to be" do not understand that it would be helpful to designate one plow to the side streets. That plow could easily make one pass down the center of each residential street in just a few hours and that would allow cars access to the main streets where the remaining plows seem to operate exclusively. Once the snow tapers off, some of the main street plows could be sent to totally clear residential streets.
Massillon City in Stark County should be ashamed of themselves. Our street is still horrible. In fact, what a difference when you drive through Massillon as opposed to neighboring townships. BOO Massillon....
Can't believe it... I live in little ol' North Ridgeville. They did a GREAT JOB... out all weekend and the roads were clear as could be this morning. Arrived in Strongsville for work this morning completely dismayed at the HORRIFIC state of the roads and parking lots out there. KUDOS TO RIDGEVILLE!
i just got my street done, the truck made 2 passes, still sucks but it's a little better
First i would like to say great job to all my and co-workers at RTA most where stranded on busses for close to 24hrs and i must commend mayfield heights, cleveland heights, and south euclid and coming through little italy because I was on the #9 saturday and sunday and was able to stay on time through the whole storm and on saturday and being that I was the only #9 running on saturday due to the fact that the other 2 9 that where online with me at the time where stuck at the turn around for about 5 hours they did an excelent job and coming down mayfield little italy high in a storm like that is something to remember and all though most of cleveland and surrounding cities did not work RTA was moving and it was a MAD HOUSE so think of how it was when or job is driving and trying to do so safely so I sign off well done.......
Cleveland Heights street crews were great at clearing the major roads. The side streets took a little longer though.
Good Job!
Avon Lake was not good. The main streets were taken care of, but the side streets were terriby neglected. On top of that, when they were plowing the main streets they would leave a giant pile at the ends of those same side streets they weren't plowing. So if you were lucky enough to be able to get down the street, you were taking chances trying to get over that pile at the end of the street.
Chardon did a great job at cleaning the roads, but Hambden on the other hand well let's just say could have tried harder
.
Here in Old Brooklyn we have seen the plow truck 7 or 8 time, in the past 24 hours. Our street is clear. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but my mother is in the West Blvd area (South of Denison) and has yet to see a plow. Why are some Cleveland streets being over cleaned while others remain inaccessible?
Berea was wonderful as usual. I traveled through Olmsted Falls and North Olmsted and found their main streets were clear. I am a Parma teacher and heard that the side streets were horrible and some people NEVER had a plow. That may have been the reason why the schools had to close.
I can't fault the people driving the plows. They go where they are told.
Amherst did a fantastic job! Even the school parking lots were totally cleared. Kudos!!!
BrookPark City Crews did a GREAT JOB! Thanks for always being there. I'm glad to live in that city. I teach in Cleveland and the streets were horrible. I could not believe the streets around the school, I almost got stuck. No plows even touched the street. Glad I live in BrookPark where they take good care of the streets.
Overall I think ODOT and Lake County Crews did an outstanding job clearing up the snow and making our roads safe! KUDOS to all!
conneaut did quite well surprisingly. usually they don't plow at all but i guess it takes a state of emergency to get them in their trucks.
Chardon Township rocks and always does!!!!
Rocky River did well. I think the roads were bad everywhere on Saturday- no one could keep up. I live on a side street and by late Saturday they had been down several times and Sunday it was great. I guess that's the beauty of having more city workers (have our own garbage crew which they can switch to snow duty when they need to.)
Twinsburg - GREAT JOB !!!! Even our small cul-de-sac was perfectly clear by Sunday afternoon. THANK YOU !
I think Euclid did a good job, good enough that there should have been school today. For all those who complained, if people stayed off the road like they were asked & let the crews do their jobs we would all have been better off!
WESTLAKE always comes through for its citizens. I drive daily to the east side for work, so I can truly compare various cities; you can ALWAYS tell when you cross into Westlake because the roads are smoothly paved AND are always plowed and salted. Three cheers to the best city on the west side!
I live in Canal Fulton in northwest Stark County. We received about 15 inches of snow during the weekend snowstorm and our street crews kept the streets clear virtually the entire weekend. Even side alleys and back roads were plowed while the main thoroughfares were also salted. They did a fantastic job this snowstorm and every snowstorm this winter. My hats off to them!
the city of Hudson did horrible because they ran out of salt. my side street is still hard to get through.
Chardon roads, as usual, were great. Plow and salt trucks were out all weekend! You guys are PROS!
Middleburg Heights and the Metroparks did a fantastic job- Strongsville the side streets were still horrible Monday afternoon!
Middleburg Hts did a great job. Our side street was plowed several times and the main roads were passable.
The side streets in Akron are still HORRIBLE. The main roads are great and kudos for that but come on...Monday night, this is ridiculous.
Solon did a great job! Our local street was plowed several times on Saturday and completely cleared early Sunday.
Cleveland however is another story. On a Sunday night some streets were cleared but others hardly plowed at all.
Cuyahoga Falls did a great job! The main roads were kept up very well and my pumpkin was able to get out and about yesterday without much problems. Great job guys.
Berea did a fantastic job as usual!
They are always on the ball. Thank you Service Dept of Berea!!
Anonymous
schools are open and the sidewalks are still 2ft deep and even higher by driveways where people piled it up, here in painesville, also I didn't see a plow on my street until sunday, we have very little busing here so they should clean the darn sidewalks or close the schools
Brooklyn Heights Street Department did a wonderful job removing the snow during the blizzard, as they always do. It doesn't matter the season, these men work extremely hard to make our community nice. I am fortunate to live in such a great community with such hard working, devoted individuals. I am proud to say my tax dollars are well spent on these men! Thanks again for all your hard, strenuous work.
Excellent job Westlake!
The city of Brooklyn did a GREAT job.
Brook Park, as always, came through doing a great job! I was out shoveling at least 5 times on Saturday and everytime I was out, I saw plows going by one after the other. Fantastic job!
