Notes From The Desk: Programming Questions

Hello Everyone! Hope your weekend is going well and you were able to enjoy the warm weather!

Over the past two weeks we received many calls on the Olympic Games with many people wanting to know specific times for their favorite Olympic event. The news desk over the weekend as well as our Weekend Morning Show Chat had some inquires as to why we broke away from Olympic coverage to air the Browns Game on Saturday night. While it can be hard to answer some specific programming questions on weekends, please know you can always find changes in programming on WKYC.COM.If the changes relate to weekend programming we try our best to post it to our weekend blog ahead of time, as Director Matt did on Friday regarding Saturday night's Browns game.

If you have a specific question regarding our show you can always e-mail our programming department at programming@wkyc.com or call our main desk at 216-344-3333. We will always do our best to help you! Enjoy the closing ceremonies from Beijing which is set to air at 7 p.m. right here on Channel 3!

Thank you for watching!

Notes From The Desk: Tribe Game

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all had a great weekend! As some of you may know I love to cheer on the Tribe and going to an Indians game is one of my favorite things to do. The last time I went to a game, I ended up on the Jumbo Tron because my section won free pizza from Slider! Director Matt suggested the next time I go to a game I should take the camera along and snap a few pictures. So that's exactly what I did this time around. I had such a great time, even though we lost. Sometimes just being at Progressive Field helps ease the pain of losing because there is always so much going on, it's easy to forget we are down five runs!

I went to the game Thursday night with my Mom and one of my best friends Heather. It was a great girls night out, Tribe style! I got our tickets from Danielle who is the evening Assignment Editor during the week. Her and her family have season tickets and they couldn't make it to the game, so I bought them from her. That was money well spent, her seats are great! We were along the third base line, pretty close to the field. When you are able to sit close to the field, it's definitely a different perspective from watching it on TV! Everyone and everything is so close!

Before the game we headed up to the Terrace Club, which is the Restaurant/Club at Progressive Field, for some drinks and appetizers. I have seen people eating though the tall glass windows many times before but have never gone inside to eat myself. The restaurant is beautiful, the food is good, and the view of the field is magnificent!

After we finished, we went down to the seats to watch the start of the game. Oh, and did I mention we grabbed a hot dog? That is a must eat when you go to a tribe game!
All in all it was a great time and I hope before the summer is over you can make it downtown to a game, maybe we'll see you on the Jumbo Tron!
Have a great week!

Notes From The Desk: Sunday, August 10th

Hello Everyone!

First of all, let me start out by saying I was not a part of this morning's coffee incident. I usually don't drink the newsroom coffee, I like the flavored coffee we have in our lunchroom. But it all makes sense now because I couldn't figure out why it was taking George our photographer so long to get a cup of coffee. Little did I know he was cleaning up a mini "coffee flood". I do have my suspicions as to who forgot to put the pot back, but I'll take the fifth for now!

Funny stuff like that happens all the time in our newsroom. A common newsroom sighting is when people try to figure out how old the food in the newsroom is. I'm sure this is the case in many workplaces. If yours is like ours then most times you can always find something to eat because people are always bringing in food or ordering in. In the newsroom you can usually always find a cake or goodies when someone has a birthday.

The best however is when the night crew orders pizza for dinner and leaves the leftovers on the table in the middle of the room. Since I'm at the newsdesk and the table is close, I usually get "hey, how long has this been sitting here?" or "who brought this in?". Two things are for sure, everyone has their own, unique definition of what is "safe" to eat and nothing ever goes to waste!
Have a good week everyone! Remember if the food looks green and that wasn't the original color, I'd pass!

Good Morning Everyone!
Hopefully there weren't any blaring sirens that woke you up this morning!
Many of you called me during the show on Saturday to report a loud siren that kept sounding on and off. Normally, something like that isn't hard to track down because all the calls usually come from one city and chances are they have given us the heads up that some kind of testing will happen.
But that wasn't the case yesterday, I was caught off guard right along with you!
We were getting calls from Parma to Westlake with people wanting to know what was going on, what the loud noise was and if they should be concerned.
As I listened to the scanners the area police departments were trying to figure out the same thing. They knew one thing for sure, it wasn't from their city!
Since most of my calls came from Fairview Park, I decided to give their police department a call. The information they passed along was that The NASA Glenn Research Center began testing their new, state of the art alarm system to warn visitors and employees of potential bad weather or any kind of threat to the center. (Interesting, huh? I thought so!)
Once I knew what was going on, I filled in Producer Caitlin who then was able to tell Jeff and Kim what was going on and they were able to tell all of you.
Thanks to all of you who called in! While it can be a little crazy with many of the phone lines going, it's good to have loyal viewers who call in with news tips!
I hope everyone has a peaceful and quiet Sunday!
Have a great week!

Hello Everyone! It was a busy weekend for me on the assignment desk. Sometimes I like that, if there isn't much going on to report, the day seems to drag on. We had a couple stories we were following closely, one being a missing elderly man from Hudson. While police haven't released too many details in why or how he disappeared, I think it's a good time to remind everyone to keep an extra eye on the elderly people in our lives. They could be your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or neighbors. Try to watch out for them and check up on them, especially during these hot summer days!

This weekend was also Producer Caitlin's birthday! On Sunday, she brought in cupcakes and the crew got her a cookie cake and card! I must admit, I was a bit tired on Saturday because some of us had a little birthday party for her Friday night. It was fun and even though I had to be up early I'm still glad I went!

I hope you have a good week!
Julie

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying your Saturday! I didn't realize how long it's been since I've posted something to the Weekend Morning Show Blog. Director Matt was kind enough to point that out to me! :) This is Matt's first weekend back since he became a new Dad! We are very happy to have him here again and wish him and his wife Danielle all the best with their new baby girl!

This morning we had a fun show! My favorite part of the show was the Oreo Licking Contest. I mean who doesn't like Oreo cookies?! They even left some for the crew to eat...I'm not sure but I think they are already gone!

One thing I want to remind everyone is that The Cleveland Science Center closes at 5 pm Saturday so you still have plenty of time to get out there and enjoy the NASA exhibit and all the fun things they have to do!

Well our Noon show is about to begin! Have a good weekend everyone!

Notes From The Desk

Good Morning!
Well today I finally got one of Bruce's Trivia Questions right! The answer was "Patch Adams". Did you get it right?

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Last night my friend was visiting from North Carolina and her and I went to the Tribe game. It was a great game, I am so happy we won, it's time to start a new WINNING streak!

Something interesting happened at the game. Slider made a guest appearance to our area to give away free pizzas! The guys sitting next to us caught the pizza box that Slider threw out and everyone in our section got a coupon for a free pizza! The whole thing was caught on the Jumbo Tron, me included! I must admit, it's a little weird to see yourself on the big screen in front of thousands of people!

Director Matt says I need to take the camera with me to capture some of my adventures and share it with all of you! So be on the look out...I'll be posting photos soon!

See you next week!

Notes from the Desk

Good Morning Everyone!

Can you believe we finally made it to Memorial Day Weekend? I love the start to summer and what a better way to unofficially start the season than to say THANK YOU to all the men and woman who serve our country.

Today I had a couple callers ask about the Great American Rib Cook-Off at the Time Warner Amphitheater, which is behind Tower City. In case you are wondering, it runs today and tomorrow Noon to 11p.m. and on Monday from Noon to 8 p.m. So if you are hungry and looking for something fun to do, head on down!

Today I really thought I had the answer to Bruce's Trivia Question, he asked "What actor one thought about becoming a Roman Catholic Priest?" I really thought it was Emilio Estevez, once again I was wrong! The correct answer was Tom Cruise.

Well, I have to get going, our reporter Paul Thomas needs help with an address for his story!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Notes from the Desk

Hello Everyone! It's Julie, I'm on the Assignment Desk before, during and after the show keeping everyone, especially Producer Caitlin updated as to what's going on! If we have something breaking, she is usually the first person I tell so she is sure to have time in her show to tell all of you!

I also keep an ear on the scanners, read through all the papers and keep track of our crews, making sure they get to where they have to go!

While the show is on the air, I always try to listen and keep an ear on whats going on and what Jeff and Kim are talking about. I get viewer phone calls during the show, especially when we have a cute dog up for adoption or when Jeff and Kim ask each other questions and don't know the answer. Plus, there are always calls for the answer to Bruce's Trivia Question, and I'm sorry to say I don't ever have the answer to that one! I'd be glad to guess right along with you though!

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend! We'll see you next week! Go Cavs!!
