CLEVELAND -- Brecksville-Broadview Heights volleyball star Shannon Williams was named the Female High School Athlete of the Year at the 18th Greater Cleveland Sports Awards at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel Downtown Wednesday.
The 2016 Gatorade Ohio Volleyball Player of the Year, Williams led the Bees to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division I State Championship last season.
In the four-set State Championship Match against Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame, Williams had one kill, nine total attacks, one blocked shot and did plenty of work on defense. Williams registered a team-best 20 digs and 50 assists on the way to a 25-21, 25-21, 14-25, 27-25 victory.
In 2017, Williams led the Bees to a District Championship and an appearance in the Regional Semifinals by averaging 13 assists per set.
During the 2017 season, Williams totaled 1,069 assists, 20 service aces, 226 digs and 96 kills.
Williams has verbally committed to continue her volleyball career at the University of Cincinnati, starting in the fall of 2018.
Solon track/cross country standout Olivia Howell and Gilmour Academy basketball star Naz Hillmon were also nominated for the Female High School Athlete of the Year Award.
