Investigators say Akron girl's kidnapping never happened

Authorities say the abduction claim involving an 11-year-old girl 'was fabricated.'

AKRON, Ohio -- Earlier this week, an 11-year-old girl was reportedly abducted while walking near Ardella and Austin Avenues.

Akron school officials tell WKYC that investigators have now determined the abduction never happened.

"The police report filed about an abduction of a student who was walking home from David Hill CLC Tuesday, was fabricated," spokesperson Mark Williamson said in a statement Thursday morning.

The abduction story involved a man in his 30s putting the girl in a dark van with no windows. After driving for five minutes, the man was said to have dropped her off near the Burger King on South Arlington Street.
