Who will the Cleveland Browns select with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft? According to at least one betting website, it will likely be Saquon Barkley who hears his name called first on April 26.
Per Bovada, Barkley is the new favorite to be taken first overall in the upcoming draft. The international betting site lists the Penn State running back as the favorite at 7/4 odds (+170), with four of the draft's top quarterbacks close behind.
Trailing Barkley is USC quarterback Sam Darnold (14/5), Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen (7/2), Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield (11/2) and UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen (7/1). You can also bet the field of none of the players named above at 14/1 odds.
The idea of the Browns selecting Barkley has been a reoccurring theme following the 6-foot, 233-pound running back's standout performance at the NFL Scouting Combine. In his most recent mock draft, Bleacher Report's Matt Miller forecasted Cleveland to choose Barkley, who ran a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash and posted 29 reps on the bench press at the combine in Indianapolis last week.
:New general manager John Dorsey needs to completely overhaul a roster that won one game in the last two years, and the best way to do that is by selecting the best player overall at each selection," Miller wrote. "Penn State's Saquon Barkley is the draft's best player and gives the Browns an instant-impact offensive weapon who will fit perfectly behind an already solid offensive line."
It seems hard to believe, however, that the Browns would pass on their first choice at quarterback, even though they could conceivably also pick a signal-caller at No. 4. But from a gambling perspective, that might only make any of the four listed quarterbacks good value bets -- for entertainment purposes only, of course.
