NorthEATS Ohio: Cordelia brings 'modern grandma' cooking to East 4th Street in Cleveland

"Taking care of you like family and feeding you like family does."

CLEVELAND — I think we can all agree that there is nothing more comforting than a home-cooked meal, especially when it's prepared with love by grandma.

Cordelia, East 4th Street's newest restaurant concept in Cleveland, also agrees with that sentiment.

They are dishing out old classics with a unique twist coining their style of "modern grandma" cooking.

"We are a chef-driven restaurant," says Cordelia's Proprietor, Andrew Watts. "We are driven by nostalgia and how you grew up in the Midwest eating."

It's driven by how Watts grew up eating in the Midwest at his great-grandmother's home, who the restaurant is named after.

"We want it to feel like walking into your favorite Thanksgiving celebration," he said. "Taking care of you like family and feeding you like family does."

The experience oozes nostalgia, from the pictures on the wall to the floral wallpaper, the vintage lighting and even the dishware from Watts' grandparents.

Attention to decorative detail throughout the restaurant plays out on the menu as well.

"We get inspired by where we come from, who taught us that hospitality, and that was our grandmothers," said Chef and Partner Vinnie Cimino.

Hospitality is in Cimino's blood. His grandmother taught him everything he knows after she owned and operated Bellies Deli in Kent for years. Cimino pays homage to her with their original restaurant sign that hangs in the kitchen at Cordelia.

"Yeah, it's pretty incredible to see it hanging now in my restaurant," said Cimino.

And in true grandma fashion, you won't leave hungry from Cordelia. It's hearty meals served family style. Some of the highlights from their menu include fried chicken, pork belly, smoked fish spread and a burger box.

Cordelia opens for dinner at 4 p.m. Tuesday- Saturday, along with a Sunday brunch at 11 a.m.
