The City of Akron will welcome back their Annual Welcome Santa Holiday Parade in 2021 after taking last year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The announcement of the parade’s return came on Wednesday, courtesy of Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan.

The parade sponsored by Bridgestone Americas is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27. The route will be along King James Way (S. Main Street) from Cedar Street to Bowery Street.

“After taking a year off last year, we are excited to bring back this holiday tradition for our Akron residents and guests to enjoy,” said Mayor Horrigan. “The Welcome Santa Holiday Parade is fun for the whole family and helps mark the start of the holiday season here in Akron.”

Those announcing each unit as they pass in the parade will be in front of Lock 3. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair and find a place along the parade route to take part in the holiday festivities.

Akron is currently accepting applications for groups interested in participating in the parade. Registration is free and easy. The parade categories include marching bands, youth groups, specialty units, floats, and costumed characters.

If anyone is interested, contact Tracy Murphy at 330-375-2835 or tmurphy@akronohio.gov to be included in the line-up.

Applications are due by Nov. 12, 2021. For more information on parade applications and details, click here
