CLEVELAND — Entertainment mogul Jay-Z has put a strong message of support and remembrance for George Floyd out to newspaper readers all across the nation, including in Cleveland.
On Wednesday, Jay-Z and his ROC NATION/TEAM ROC company, working in partnership along with other activists, attorneys, and parents of young black men killed by police, placed a full-page ad in The Plain Dealer and several other newspapers.
The ad quotes a speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Selma, Alabama in 1965. It includes the line, "We're going to stand up amid tear gas! We're going to stand up amid anything they can muster up, letting the world know that we are determined to be free!"
The letter is signed by Jay-Z, along with the parents of three young black men all tragically killed by police, an attorney for the Floyd family, and several other celebrities and activists.
According to CNN, the ad appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Denver Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer and other newspapers on Tuesday.
