HOLLYWOOD -- And the Oscar goes to… Lee Unkrich!

Unkrich, who is originally from Chagrin Falls, won the coveted trophy in the “Best Animated Feature” category for his work on Disney’s Coco.

During his acceptance speech, Unkrich said one goal of the film is to make a positive message about the beauty of Mexico and its people.

“The biggest thank you of all to the people of Mexico. Coco would not exist without your endlessly beautiful culture and traditions. With Coco, we tried to take a step forward toward a world where all children can grow up seeing characters in movies that look and talk and live like they do. Marginalized people deserve to feel like they belong. Representation matters.”

Unkrich also won an Oscar in 2011 for the “Best Animated Feature” of that year: Toy Story 3.
