Parkgoers report rocky start to season at Cedar Point

Many of the issues apparently stem from staffing challenges.

SANDUSKY, Ohio — On Saturday, we told you about opening weekend problems at Cedar Point. Many guests were disappointed by longer than usual wait times and many rides not operating.

Keep in mind that opening weekend at Cedar Point is a busy one every year. But some guests who have gone year after year in the first few days of the season say this was one of their worst experiences.

Despite needing reservations to get inside, one 3News viewer sent us pictures and videos of rides that were closed for the day, restrooms that people weren't allowed to use, and even food lines with hour-long waits.

We reached out to Cedar Point and a spokesperson told us the company is not immune to hiring challenges despite adding incentives to get more staff on board. Those staffing shortages led to more than a few unhappy guests.

"It wasn't the best experience," said one guest to 3News on Saturday. "The lines were so long, we were standing in Panda Express for 20 minutes and we didn't move. So I talked to my son and we decided to leave. And here we are in McDonalds."

Cedar Point says a majority of guests enjoyed opening weekend, adding that they’re willing to address guest concerns on an individual basis for those who had a bad experience and they are continually adjusting their operations to make things better. Clearly, more adjustments need to be made.
