BEACHWOOD, Ohio — 3News Meteorologist Jason Mikell may be a newly minted Clevelander, but that hasn't stopped him from wanting to get to know the best of Northeast Ohio. That's why we're launching a brand-new series we're calling "New in Town," introducing Jason to The Land - and also sharing the newest places you're going to want to check out too.
This week, Jason visited Beachwood's La Place shopping center - the home of a new DIY studio concept called Cre8 Sparks. Owner Asira Mathew says, their goal is to offer a space where you can truly express yourself.
"We wanted this to be a place where it inspires creativity and it creates a spark in people to do more fun art activities because we believe in the transformation that it brings into people's lives."
And here, there is no shortage of projects to choose from - everything from canvas painting, ceramics, mosaic pieces, even glassware and clothing is all waiting for you to put your stamp on it.
Mathew says there are projects for all skill levels and for all ages. "The wide range of activities that we offer, we always say is from ages 3 to 93. if a family comes in there's stuff to do for mom for dad and for the kids, so they have their own age-appropriate activities."
And that's not all - there's plenty of space for larger gatherings, too.
"We have lots of groups come out - girls night out, we do adult events we have team building activities for businesses."
Jason decided to dive right in with a pour painting. Partner Lorelei VerLee told him, the fun is in the surprise.
"You know what is so fun about this? You have no idea what it's gonna look like."
So after a lot of paint pouring, and plenty of creative inspiration, Jason put the finishing touches on his masterpiece, and Asira and Lorelei sent him on his way with a special gift from their glassware section. Jason says, he can't wait to visit again with his 3News Weather Team.
