If you or someone you know struggles with alcohol use, then taking part in Dry January could be the kickoff to the start of a healthier New Year. Dr. George Koob, Director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism spoke with Alexa with important info on how to recognize signs of an alcohol problem and ways to get help.

Here are the questions Alexa asked:

What are some possible signs of an alcohol-related problem that may have surfaced during the holidays?

If you think a friend or family member may have a problem, what are some things you can do to get help?

Can taking part in “Dry January” (not drinking any alcohol during the month) be a healthy step?

This year, NIAAA is celebrating its 50th anniversary. How has NIAAA helped to advance our understanding of alcohol and addiction?
