Tarah Flanagan and Alex Brightwell – “Every Brilliant Thing” with Cleveland Play House

“Every Brilliant Thing” strikes a balance between loss and laughter.

Can a play about depression and mental illness be funny and uplifting? Tarah Flanagan and Alex Brightwell say yes! Tarah and Alex are the stars of “Every Brilliant Thing,” opening November 23rd at Cleveland Play House, joined us in studio today!

Here are the questions Hollie & Alexa asked:

First, we should say that you are not co-stars – because this is a one-person play – so you take turns performing! Can you tell us a bit about the story – and how it works with one actor on stage?

Do you think the audience will receive it differently depending on if a man or a woman is performing?

Tell us how humor is found in the story – since you’re actually dealing with suicidal thoughts.

You’ve both been in other Cleveland Play House productions – and you’re in rehearsals now for Every Brilliant Thing…have you found it to be an exhausting role – or an ultimately energizing one?

Are you at all concerned about people in the audience who have depression – or discover they might as they relate to the play – and how they might react?

Will you be buying tickets for “Every Brilliant Thing”? Find us on Social Media @ ‘Live on Lakeside’ and let us know!
