Are Cleveland Browns back to 'woe is us' attitude?: The Donovan Live Postgame Show

Jim Donovan and Dave "Dino" DeNatale give their takeaways after the Browns suffered their 2nd straight loss on Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Just when you thought the Cleveland Browns were out of the morass of losing, they get pulled back in.

I borrowed the line from The Godfather, Part III to illustrate how distressing it is to see the Browns go back to their old habits that we all had hoped they had broken.

Instead, here's what we took away from Sunday's defeat in Tampa Bay:

I also wonder if there's a rift between Jackson and GM John Dorsey that might have explained why RB Carlos Hyde was dealt away to Jacksonville on Friday afternoon. Jim Donovan doesn't think so, but the timing of the move still seems odd to me.

Back in 2006, the Browns invested in several high-profile, locally-grown free agents, including LeCharles Bentley, Joe Jurevicius, and Dave Zastudil. When Bentley tore his patellar tendon on the first day of training camp, then-GM Phil Savage called a press conference. He knew that the collective psyche of the fans was shattered and tried his best to do damage control.

"We can't listen to the woe-is-me around town . . . If myself and the organization believe there's validity to that, then we're wasting our time," Savage said. "We need to reshape the mentality of the team. There is a woe-is-me, run-for-the-hills mentality that seems to permeate Cleveland in general."

The Browns are 2-4-1 after suffering their second straight loss. The schedule is going to get even tougher with games against the Steelers, Chiefs, and Falcons to come before the bye week. If the Browns can't turn the tide, the 'woe-is-us' mentality will surely be back.

And that may become the problem of a new head coach.
