Cleveland Browns begin important week with roster meetings: The Donovan Live Postgame Show

According to Jim Donovan, the Browns coaching staff and personnel department met Monday to examine the state of the team's roster prior to the draft.

What you may have heard on Monday is the Browns are welcoming in Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield for his pre-draft visit to Cleveland.

Mayfield's trip to Cleveland is one of 30 the Browns are permitted to have with prospective draft candidates. The team is expected to welcome in Wyoming QB Josh Allen, USC QB Sam Darnold, and UCLA QB Josh Rosen as the week progresses.

I can pretty much guarantee that you haven't heard what was going on in Berea on Monday prior to Mayfield's arrival. That nugget was provided by Jim Donovan on the Postgame Show.

According to Jimmy, the Browns coaching staff and personnel department met Monday to examine the state of the team's roster prior to the draft. It was an assessment of what they have now, who they might be anticipating to add during draft weekend, and if there are any more trades or free agency signings to be made.

Here's an example that Jimmy gave: former first-round pick, WR Corey Coleman. What do you do with him? The Browns added Jarvis Landry and Jeff Janis via trade and free agency. They have Josh Gordon. Will the team give Coleman one more chance to prove he can stay healthy and be productive? Will they look to trade him? Or will they simply cut him loose?

Those are the types of decisions being made.

Meanwhile, is Allen surging in the QB stock market? According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated and the MMQB, a friend of Browns GM John Dorsey (FOD) believes he’ll go Allen over Darnold with the first overall pick, keep the fourth pick, and take Penn State running back Saquon Barkley.

First things first, this guy can't be a good friend, can he? What kind of friend goes shooting off to a reporter with the team's draft intentions like that? No FOD (friend of Dino) would ever do that.

But seriously, as Jimmy explained, all of the quarterbacks and Barkley have or will experience some kind of surge on the rumor mill thanks to the Combine, Senior Bowl, pro days, team visits, and so on.

Also on the show, Jimmy and I discussed the state of the Cavaliers as they finish out the regular season. The team has five games to play before the start of the postseason, including Tuesday's showdown with the Raptors at the Q. LeBron James continues to play at an MVP level, but can the men around him rise to the occasion? Make no mistake, this year's playoffs will not be the cakewalk we're all used to. The Eastern Conference is better from top to bottom. It would also be helpful for the Wine and Gold to hang on to the No. 3 seed and lock up home court advantage for the first round of the playoffs.

What did we learn about the Indians after their first weekend of regular season action? I'm a little concerned about Jose Ramirez, who has yet to record a hit. Jimmy thinks the team really misses Bryan Shaw, who was durable and (mostly) reliable as the bridge from the starters to the back-end of the bullpen. Plus, the Tribe needs to stop trying to hit home runs in every at-bat.
