Have the Cleveland Browns decided who will be #1 pick in NFL Draft? The Donovan Live Postgame Show

Jim Donovan believes that the Cleveland Browns now know who they will take first overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

We are now less than three days away from the 2018 NFL Draft. Do you know what your Cleveland Browns are going to be doing once Thursday rolls around?

If you are trying to venture a guess from the national media, good luck? As I found out on Monday, the tea leaves are all over the place!

Here's the most important question? Do the Browns (particularly GM John Dorsey) know what they're going to do with the first overall pick yet?

According to the 'Voice of the Browns,' Jimmy Donovan, yes.

Jimmy told me on Monday that the Browns spent last Thursday and Friday in high-level meetings between front office, coaches, and scouts to plot out what the team's needs are on offense and defense. His belief is that at the end of those meetings, Dorsey and company came to a consensus on the best pick to make at No. 1.

Jimmy's belief: It's going to be USC QB Sam Darnold, based on a number of factors. Besides his physical tools and skills set, the Browns love the fact that Darnold knows he's not a finished product, so therefore he's not expecting to play right off the bat.

As far as the fourth overall pick, there's plenty of speculation about possible trades. I don't get the sense that anything will happen until draft night, and neither does Jimmy. My preference is that the Browns stay put at #4 and take the best player available, maybe Bradley Chubb, the edge rusher from N.C. State, or perhaps Penn St. RB Saquon Barkley. Get an elite player while you wait for the QB pick at 1 to blossom, which could take a couple of years.

Also on the show Monday...

The Cavaliers staved off being down 3-1 to the Pacers, rallying to win in Indiana on Sunday. It's great to be tied up at 2, but there's still some concerns about the team as we wait for Wednesday's Game 5. Why is Kevin Love struggling so much? Plus, can the Cavs afford to play LeBron James as much as they are without him running out of gas? Jimmy and I discuss.

And sad news in baseball on Monday as former Tribe player, coach, and broadcaster Davey Nelson has passed away at the age of 73. We talked about Davey's impact on the mid-90's Indians. Jimmy also mentioned that an important sports figure in his life passed away over the weekend as well, former Patriots play-by-play announcer Gil Santos.
