JIMMY'S TAKE | As Training Camp opens, there is reason for optimism about Cleveland Browns

"The Voice of the Browns" gives his thoughts on the state of the team as they open Training Camp

Here we go, Browns fans!

The 2018 season has arrived as the team hit the field on Thursday for the first day of Training Camp in Berea.

A big crowd was on hand for the hot and muggy opening practice, including the "Voice of the Browns," Jim Donovan.

As this new-look Browns squad gets together, Jimmy believes there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic. Here was his "Jimmy's Take" from Thursday's Donovan Live:

"First and foremost, they are much better. The Browns have much more talent top-to-bottom than we've seen for some time. They've brought in players with winning experience in the NFL, and that's obviously very important.

Also, there's no quarterback controversy. Tyrod Taylor is the guy. He should be able to hold it down while Baker Mayfield gets developed.

There's one other point that needs to be brought up: The Browns would like everyone to stop talking about the team's ineptitude over the last few years. 0-16 last year, 1-31 over the last two seasons.

Fine. But then the Browns need to stop talking about Josh Gordon.

The talented, but troubled wide receiver is dragging this team down.

He's here, he's out. He's here, he's out. Right now, he's out and no one is sure when he'll be back with the Browns.

It's wrong for everyone to look at the front door of 76 Lou Groza Blvd. and see if Josh is walking through the door.

Gordon's problems have bitten this team since 2013. They are preventing him from reaching his full potential and they are preventing this franchise from truly moving forward.

So for now, let's concentrate on the team that's here. If we do that, then we can forget about the past and start looking forward to the future on the field."
