Interestingly enough, today’s younger generation seems to enjoy Playstations more than they do the playground. Youth in America average 8 hours daily on electronic media and over 70% of children are Vitamin D deficient from lack of sunlight. Forty percent of school districts in the United States have reduced recess in hopes of putting academia first and saving outdoor exploration for the home. Here in Northeast Ohio we have some amazing opportunities to experience nature within all 4-seasons and we have some places we want you to check out!

Holden Forest and Garden

Holden Forests & Gardens includes the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland and the Cleveland Botanical Garden in University Circle. In addition to welcoming guests to our campuses to see beautiful gardens, learn about horticulture, and hike our trails, we also do a great deal of work in the community. We helped develop and are helping to implement the Cleveland Tree Plan, intended to increase the tree canopy coverage in the city of Cleveland from 19% to 40% by 2040. Our Green Corps program employs Cleveland teens who learn about agriculture, nutrition, and business while operating urban farms in four Cleveland neighborhoods.
