Here is Yvonne’s Inspirational Message for the week:
”Some years ago, I went on a trip with my sister in-law, Angela. She had only flown once and had a terrible fear of flying. I assured her that all would be well as I flipped through the pages of a magazine without looking up. Soon we were in the air and being served refreshments when suddenly, the ‘fasten your seat belt’ sign came on and the pilot instructed everyone to return to their seats. The plane began to sway from side to side. By now, Angela’s eyes were protruding from their sockets, while I never looked up from the magazine. Why? As a frequent flyer, I am used to turbulence. The look of panic on her face was a clear indication that she was beyond afraid. I mouthed to her that everything would be fine and that the first bump was typically a doozy. My attempt at consolation wasn’t very helpful as the next moments felt like a roller coaster ride at Cedar Point. Her fear was real! I realize that I, yes even I are afraid at times of change. I recall a trip that I took once to Berlin. I would call it a trip of a lifetime. Prior to my going my children would laugh at my flip phone and beg me to upgrade. I resisted continually. Upon arrival in Germany, I realized I had left my phone charger. No problem, I thought, I’ll just buy one there. I will never forget the look of bewilderment on the face of each merchant as I went to store after store. Apparently, the charger that I needed was ancient. Because of my refusal to change, to upgrade, I missed so many opportunities to get any photographs. My refusal to face my fears was costly. Think of a goal that you have yet to achieve. Is fear stopping you? It is unfortunate that flying has to be so bumpy at times but in order to get from one destination to the next, you may have to just take flight, and accept the fact that you just might have to do it afraid.”
